Hi Folks,

My new (well second hand) motorhome came with a PDA, GPS Receiver and Tom Tom 3 major Roads of Europe...it's excellent for basic navigation and routeplanning. However, I have seen loads of POI files to download (many on this site) but I can't figure out what to do once I've downloaded them (and unzipped) Do I have the wrong version of Tom Tom, there is no POI option in the properties or settings menu? Do I have to download something else? (Yes I've got the POIWarner for alerts) Any advice, gratefully received. May a god bless you all.

hi
do a search of the forum - you should come up with lots of advice !

but briefly
your pda needs connecting to your pc and you need to run microsoft active sync. once connected use the explore function in active sync and copy you poi's (unzipped) into the folder that contains you main map (usually !) close down the pda, reopen it, start tom tom and the poi's should be available

hope this helps

A POI database consists of a file with extension OV2 ( ie French Campsites.OV2), and optionally a companion file with extension BMP (ie French Campsites.BMP)

To make such databases visible on a Tom Tom Navigator map make sure of the following:
1 The file(s) are stored in the same directory on your Pocket PC where the map data is located.
2Tom Tom navigator re-opened the map after the OV2 file was put there, ( if necessary restart Tom Tom Navigator

Example to use the database "French Campsites" in the French map you can do the following:
Connect Pocket PC to your PC and start Active Sync. use the menu option
FILE > EXPLORE to explore the directories on your Pocket PC to the directory \MY DOCUMENTS\FRANCE or to STORAGE CARD\ FRANCE if your map is installed on a Storage Card ( recomended).
Copy the files OV2 and if there is one, BMP to this directory.
Next on the Pocket PC, re-open the French map in Tom Tom Navigator. If necessary re-start Nvigator application using the Tom Tom Navigator option EXIT.
In the POI tab of your TOM Tom Navigator Preferences, make sure that "French Campsites" has a checkmark in the box otherwise the POI's will not be displayed on your screen.
Come back if you need any more info
Doug

Don't take this as gospel but I don't think you get the POI option with the major roads of europe map. The option isn't there for me on this map but when I switch to the UK map it is a tab under properties.

Maybe it is because major roads of europe cannot direct you to a POI unless its on a major road!

Check the site that lydgate posted, I am sure you find the definitive answer there.

Go to the tomtom site and download ver4.4 of the operating system. Makes the whole thing a lot easier.

Muncy

Probably jumped the gun a bit, I've assumed that you've got a Palm PDA if you have it must be a Tungsten T3; if that's the case then go http://www.tomtom.com/ follow the links for support, download the latest version (ver4.4) of the tomtom operating software. This version makes the addition / manipulation of POI's pretty simple.
