[color=green:0cbb15247a]Having just purchased a motorhome we are looking to join one of the many clubs. We have narrowed it down t the Caravan Club and the Camping and Caravanning Club.
We want the one with the broadest continental experience.

Has anyone any advice please?[/color:0cbb15247a]

Caravan club have a good booking service for ferries and sites abroad and their travel/breakdown insurance (red pennant) is IMHO good value for money and peace of mind on the continent (probably a bit dearer than the rest but top notch cover).

Can't comment on the opposition, though i'm sure someone will....

hi ojibway

sitting on the fence on this one. i'm in both and both have their strong points re continental touring.

CC - good continental site books compiled from member's reports, excellent tech/advice helpline. i once enquired about MH dealers near calais and they posted me details.

C &CC - great continental rallies

both have travel service to book sites & crossings but have found i can do it cheaper myself.

if you don't want to rally choose the CC

This debate will go on for ever and there has been a lot of discussion on here and elsewhere. There is a debate going on at the moment over a statement a CC official has made which just about sums up the Caravan Clubs attitude.
(You can start it off here Jackie )
The C&CC seem to want us more than the CC do, but the MCC is the only club that really wants us, unfortunately - no sites

We are also in both and each has merit.
We often use the CC for ferries and we use their Red Pennant Travel and Health insurance.
Having needed the service for a breakdown they couldn't have been more helpful.
We also had to claim for a spell in a Perigueux hospital last year and although we were very long winded in making the claim they paid without a murmur.

To amplify on the C&CC continental rally point.
They run long term rallies in Spain and Portugal from early September until May(?) so plenty of scope for the winter sun camper.

It seems to me that taking into account the considerable amount we spend overall on our hobby that to be in one rather than both saves peanuts.

Hi We are in both clubs an have been to several winter rallies with the C&CC

We mainly go to CC Sites at home - mainly because they are in the area that we want to visit

We also use both clubs 5 van members only sites

We also use Camping Cheques while abroad - This int a club, but you can get some cheaper sites out of season

This next holiday we are starting off with th C&CC at a rally then on our own for 3 weeks then for the first time we will be booking in with the CC for 2 weeks on 2 sites and another few weeks on our own before we sail back to Hull

Oh and this trip it was a few ponds cheaper to book P&O Hull - Rotterdam direct by internet

Both run rallies at home
