We can now announce the winners of round 5 of the photocomp. The winner is Sally Sanford who won one of the earlier rounds as well, very, very well done Sally
Excellent. Well done Sally. Sort of pic that compels you to jump in the van and just drive off anywhere. I'm a BP lover too particularly of their posh diesel.
Hi
With regard to your winning photo entry, could you tell me on what merit it won!
I am not knocking the entry or the competition, just interested how a pic with `in my opinion` a not well thought out composition could win.
The road leads your eye away from the subject ie the motorhome, the pumps would normally be classed as clutter in a photo mag.. maybe the judges should read a few, I`l post you some of my back issues
The subject was "A photograph that typifies 2008" In my opinion, very few did this. You can criticise the photo but you can not say it did not capture the spirit of 2008. It was for this reason I voted it into the top 3.

I think it terrific that a photo can win first prize and be of a garage. Of course on technical merit the picuture is nothing but that has always been of little consequence to me personally.
What this picture conjured up for me was the current weather and fuel issues, and the lovely feeling you get when you pull up alongside the pumps with only one teaspoonful of fuel left onboard, illustrated with a topical motorhome.
