hi
thanks, for the congratulations, and I am both delighted and surprised!
This is the first time I had attempted to take a picture to a set target, and having had the idea, believe me, we drove past loads of garages before I let Gary fill up the van!
Amazingly, this was the best I found in Dorset, for a garage - showing the prices, weather appropriate, etc. The pump had to be the right side for the hymer, other things like cars for sale not obscuring the van, safe for me to jump to the side of the road, oh, and all while the van was running low on fuel, and I had the time it takes for Gary to fill up....
Once you start all, sorts of things crop up - I now have a LOT more respect for professional photographers who take commissions. The problems of getting a decent shot can be immense when there is a deadline, and a specific theme.
Excellent photos, and I agree with Texas, its so nice to see unimproved(?) photos winning a competition.
I wouldnt ever criticise a photograph thats been adjusted with software, but I wonder at what point does the photo stop being the original and start being something completely artificial.....if you see what I mean.
The reason I dont moan about the software enhanced photos is twofold. First, I am of the point and press school of photography, and dont know the first thing about software, zooms or focal lengths. Second, I cant be bothered to learn, so it would be inapporpriate for me to comment.
I think that the photo should as accurately as possible relfect exactly the subject as seen by the eye.
Which should raise a few eyebrows, given the thickness of me specs.
Hi all and congratulations to all the winners, the pics were great and it has been an experience to be on the judging panel for 2008. Personally I voted for pictures I liked and which fitted the theme. Unimproved, improved, photo shipped, cropped, chopped, lightened, darkened didn't come into it for me as would not recognise it iffen it smacked me wif greeni's spade!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As for the offer of the mags, err no ta hunny you keep em, I'll stick to Heat and New magazine!!!!!!! They got nice pics
Mines definitely a photoshop re hash it started life as a beach shot in Somerset, with a photo of a southern polar scene aptly named Deception Island!
Congrats to all the winners, I'm amazed to have had a photo selected worthy of a prize amongst the stiff competition. 2008 was a very difficult title to sum up in a photograph.
Ciao tutti,
Congratulations to all the winners. To my completely unprofessional and untrained eye, a good photo is one I immediately say to myself 'that's a good photo'. All these had me saying that to myself. Don't care about all the techy stuff.
saluti,
eddied

As Carol said earlier that is the last round of this current comp. All the winners and 2nd/3rd will now go into the final round to be judged by the members.
All I have to do is work out how to do it now my good mate - the Nukeman has introduced new album software
