Mine is an older AV300 which also has an attachment to record your own video or take single pictures. It also plays mp3 as well. Got mine off Ebay.
I think the new ones come with a remote control and Wifi.
I use this program

to convert it to my Archos and it then plays on any size screen.

I'm getting myself confused now ( and downloading your suggested rip program at the same time, thanks ).

I have an old HP laptop for the MH with an excellent 14" screen. So the options are:

Archos type device to 10.4" screen conveniently mounted with good sound.

Laptop with 14" screen, not conveniently mounted, I suppose I could use the same speakers for good sound.

Or even laptop to 10" screen and then throw the laptop on the bed so we don't need table up ( and before anyone screams COOLING, the laptop would be placed on something smooth ). That's not good, can't control it if not to hand.

So many choices - or we could just get legless every night.

The program I suggested is for many different players including pc monitors and laptops. It does not rip the DVD it merely converts it to the player of your choice and puts the lips in sync so you would need to rip it to Divx first. You could convert it to run on your laptop direct if its up to it. I did use my laptop for films but it takes more power than the archos
