Morning All,

I'm thinking of getting this TV

I've only got a small van and so only want some thing small. I'll be using a non-van mounted aerial. I know that it's not going to be the all singing tap dancing latest branded high end product, but it's only really going to be used when it's wet (when isn't it lately Smile ) and it's too far to walk to the pub. So does anyone have one and if so what's it like?

Thanks
Ginge

Hi Ginge

By the look of it, it's similar to one we have (except we have the 10" version). The actual make is something "... vision", or something like that.

Like you, we don't watch it much, but it's been useful to have both digital and analog tuners, for when the signal is too weak for the digital. It works well on both 12v and with the 240V power supply included.

We've been very happy with ours (despite the high price when we bought it Evil or Very Mad )

The problem you will probably find is really "tinny" sound, no room for proper speakers.

On a 10" LCD we solved the problem with a pair of amplified PC speakers.

You might consider spending a bit more on one with DVD and be able to take something you really enjoy with you.

We have one similar from Maplins but the 10.4 inch and it was the B grade one which has worked brilliant for 18 months now.
I see the model you displayed has a B grade option for £59.
I use an Archos with an 80 gig hard drive to store and play films which just plugs into the tv and is much better than having to take loads of dvd's with you.

From experience I have found 7 / 8" models just a bit to small to see...
We used to have a Trigano and even though that was not a big van, trying to watch a 7" screen was not comfortable...
10" I think would be minimum... There are some great deals now coming out on 15", yes they are bigger but being flat screen a lot easier to store that the old glass tubes..
Have a look here.. 15" with freeview £99..

Have you considered using your laptop if thats what your PC is?

I still cant see the point of a "proper" tv in the motorhome. I bought a good usb tv card for £30 and I have a full 15.4 widescreen digi tv with dvd player etc, even has remote. When not using it, you close it and put in a cupboard. I find it great, excellent screen and picture quality.

Am i missing something bar a little convenience of just pressing the tv on button?

Now that is a brilliant idea. It's amazing just how much room the humble DVD takes up and we've just started stocking up for The Grand Tour.

Do you rip them at full resolution or reduce it to suit a 10" display or does the Archos software take care of this. How many films or hours can you fit on it ?

Thinks...... Ours will take a USB stick, a 500G USB HD costs nothing today, now that's worth testing !!

Not at all. The only reason I bought a 10" TV was convenience. There was a slide out TV shelf so I fixed the LCD to this on a hinge so it's just slide out and drop for ease of use.

The old laptop I carry has a bigger better screen but means a bit of setting up and need to keep the table in place. Moving the table gives us a bit more comfort and we still have room for wine glasses Smile

Since then we've bought a simple portable satellite dish and that would be a problem to feed into a laptop.
