Having recently read about overnighting on Dover sea front, set me wondering about POI's for Sat Navs. ( Do they exist?) Also, what pressure is being put upon Local Authorities to remove height restriction bars on car parks?

With the current strength of the Euro, it really is becoming evident that more European Tourists are coming to the UK (especially along the south east coast) . I notice that a few MH's are setting up in the Eastern end Prom car park at Hythe/Seabrook. The next available is not until Dungeness. The situation would not be the same in Europe.

Why can't the local UK authorities awaken to the potential of Tourism, or are we all branded as "Travellers"!

Hi

I don't know about POI's but there's a comprehensive databse here:
www.motorhomeparking.co.uk/

The website also provides a template to enable you to hassle your local authority to provbide parking.

It's also possibe to buy a CD containing the database, from the site.

Hi Telbell

Thanks for the useful link. Though its very helpful it makes for depressing reading and shows how paranoid our councils are. We definitely need to rattle the cage more.

I thought after the 'foot and mouth' scare, government was more concerned about land management and Tourism in the UK!

Thanks H. I agree with your comments. Some Councils are more sympathetic than others, but we'll never approach the stance of countries like France & Germany.

When we were in Germany in June, having done some shopping in a Lidl store, we decided to unroll the awning, get out the chairs & table and have lunch in the searing 35deg heat. Imagine doing that here? (even without the searing heat Laughing )

The site such as that I quoted depends on Motorhomers keeping it updated of course.

There is another angle as to why we are not wanted in car parks in the UK - 1 motorhome = the space of 2 cars ie half the income!

Also, councils are run be incompetent idiots who cannot see the difference between a motorhome and a caravan. They think that if we park in a car park, within a few minutes it will be over-run by dids. Well maybe they should treat the dids with the contempt they deserve and move them out instantly (like they do on the continent) with a bulldozer if necessary!

All the time I am treated like a third-class citizen in the UK I will continue to take ALL my holidays abroad where I know my money is welcomed and appreciated.

Hi Mike

Yes they are as bad as any. I wrote to Arun last year and did not even get a response. What a bunch of *********

I guess they are to busy looking after thier own Ivory Tower and trying to fine us for putting out the wrong sort of rubbish!

When some travellers took over the coach /truck park at Bognor recently, some councillor said they were considering putting barriers on it (as well as having them on most of the other car parks in the area Rolling Eyes ); so how are the coaches / trucks going to get in, guys? Confused

I'm going a bit off topic here but I do think this tale speaks volumes as to where we are in the UK with the problems of dids and travellers:

When working on some old rubbish tips in Eastbourne a few years ago we went to move our equipment onto a new site. When we got there, travellers had cut the locks and infested the site. There were about 8 or 9 'vans and several trucks (non taxed) and other vehicles. I would not go onto the site until they were removed (for obvious reasons) so I called the client. The Head of the Department came out and met me and in we went (with several other LA Officials) to, I thought, move them on. Imagine my supprise when SHE (the Head of Department) said to the dids "Is there anything you want? do your children need to go to the local school? are you ok for food and clothes? I was so disgusted I walked off the site...

Surely all the councils have to do if this is the case is to charge us double. I would willingly pay the extra if if meant being able to use the car parks and I am sure many others feel the same. I just think the majority of councils don't want us in their towns. It's a crying shame because I like a lot of others just go the continent for my holidays instead of spending my money here.
