I have just had my compouter checked and the man told me I didnt need Norton as the free version of AVG8 does a good job. Bearing in mind that I bank online and shop. Is it safe to use? The computer man told me he uses it himself. Has anyone had any bad experiences with it?

It's very good.

But there is a problem - search here for AVG8 where someone gives details on how to stop it hogging your internet connection.

If you can find a download of AVG7.5 then that is faultless.

I have used AVG for a couple of years now. Think it is great and FREE!

No problems for me upgrading to version 8.

AVG anti virus software is very widely used.I've been using the free version for years with absolutely no problem. The latest vesion (AVG8) is very good. A previous poster suggests AVG 7.5 but I would not bother with this as updates will not be provided for very much longer.

You will however need to install a firewall to be used in conjunction with AVG. Most people use Zone Alarm which is also free.

Hello

I use it and even I get on OK with it - and I am hopeless with computers and stuff!

I have been using AVG for about 6 years now, (I have the paid version) and it is very good, never ever had a problem with virus's or anything.

The main difference is that mine updates automatically every 4 hours or so....but there may be other benefits, not having the slogan at the end is one to me.

Norton played havoc with my computer years ago, it conflicted with too many things, and does apparently also cause problems with the 3 usb dongle...so the guy in 3 told me.

AVG is great and I have not experienced any problems with 8 myself. Remember that if you have a wireless router as your modem, you do not need a seperate firewall-it acts as a hard firewall itself.

Did'nt know that. What happens if you use your laptop at a WIFI hotspot. Are you still protected?
