We collected our new Hymer from Germany last week, lodged the papers withe the LVLO on Thursday and have now received notification that they want to inspect the vehicle on Wednesday 10th March.
Our concern is that we haven't been able to get the fog light repositioned, the speedo changed etc yet.
Does anyone know if they inspect these or is it just a chassis number check etc
Any info greatly appreciated
Regards

I have to say that I don't know - but I would certainly be very interested to hear what they have to say! I would assume that their primary concern would be to ensure that the import is legitimate (not nicked or ringed) and the secondary concern would be compliance.
I assume the 'van isn't dodgy so you have no worries on that score and it seems unrealistic to expect you to carry out the conversion work so quickly - however-----! Aren't you supposed to complete the work before applying for a road fund licence? I only have experience of used imports so I'm not genned up on the new vehicle side of things. With used 'vans you need an MOT before registering so that should take care of the legal stuff, but on new imports???
Hopefully you have somewhere off-road where you can park the 'van for the visit, if so you can tell them you are waiting for the garage to get the parts and aren't using the vehicle on the road in the meantime. If you haven't anywhere offroad you might have a potential problem.
Why not phone and ask them - tell them the work is not yet completed (waiting for parts to be delivered) and ask if they would prefer to delay their visit until the job is complete. They probably aren't ogres - but then again they are the DVLA aren't they???
Keep us informed

Our inspection turned out to be a non-event. Apparently the DVLA have issued a guidance note to LVLO's that ALL new imported motorhomes should be inspected as some people have been importing estate cars, mitsubishi pajeros and the like, fitting a small sink in them and calling then motorhomes!...that way they do not need type approval.
So we are collecting our tax disc and registration plate papers from the LVLO tomorrow (Monday) and we'll be off to the West Country on Tuesday!
