hi chris - i have been to RV shows when i was considering buying one. my lasting memory is of a ginormous RV with it's equally ginormous RVer doing the washing with an automatic washing machine & a tumble drier in the lockers.

i said 'that's what i want' but it wouldn't have got round 3 of the bends leading to our favourite pyrenees site. i have experience of driving large vehs - HGV1 licence - and mostly drove rigids.

i think you & coolcolly are right that the proportion that we see when out isn't a true figure because RVers don't use them the same as european MHs are used. however i don't think there that the true proportion is anywhere near that of the ads but without sales figures for all types we will never know.

it's a human trait to belong to tribes be it the MH tribe or the RV tribe but at least we won't be warming the spears up - will we Question Wink Smile Laughing

each to his/her/their own but getting there aware of all potential pitfalls.

No Smifee - definitely not spears Smile (probably beers)

Everyone to their own - my REAL gripe ( as I'm sure you saw in my post ) is the fact we get ripped off by everything and everybody and we BRITS just 'put up with it' Mad

ALL Motorhome dealers in the UK rip us off !! If I was buying European I'd go to Europe and save a fortune.

See you all at Peterborough Very Happy (in our chosen tribes)

Hi all and thanks for all your useful comments, after looking on the american ebay site I can only agree that we do seem to get ripped off in this country, maybe the best way is to fly out and import one?, does anyone have any pointers how to go about this please?
I guess we will have to pay some kind of import tax, register it with DVLA, get it taxed (that dam word again). Any advice please?
Thanks a lot

Hi Ian & Kay

Dee and I are in contact with Ian and Doreen (Cornishman) who are right now in Florida having bought a Fleetwood - they are having a holiday and shipping it back to the UK - when they will sell it.

Dee and I are also going to the States to buy and ship back, later this year.

Ian and Doreen are really friendly and giving loads of help.

We have their private email address, in the US, if you'd like, we'll ask their permission to give out their email address to you, so that you can also receive direct info and advice ?
Or you can find 'Cornishman' on this site.

Regards

An example of UK USRV dealers charges

A UK dealer (who shall remain nameless) is currently selling a 30' RV for £39,995.00 (a second hand motor)

The same vehicle can be bought in the US for £12,000.00 - to ship it to the UK, pay all taxes, VAT, registration etc etc will cost £13,000.00 making a total of £25,000.00

A saving of £14,995.00 - spend £4,000.00 whilst in the US on a holiday and still save about £11,000.00

Seems like a 'no brainer' to me Laughing

Hi Coolcolly

You're absolutely right, the UK is supposed to be in Europe, but please advise how I can refer to Europe when I want to talk about the bit that excludes the UK.

Which word or words do I use ?

Very Happy
