I am getting seriously pi$$ed off with Talktalk as a broadband supplier and am exploring other providers. The problem I have with TT is that their service is so unstable. I might get a connection for a few seconds and then lose it. They have even slowed my speed down in an attempt to provide a stable platform. The telephone line from the house to the terminal up the road has been dug up and replaced (by BT). I suspect that I am too far from TT's clearly inadequate equipment in the local exchange. As all other suppliers will have to use the same line, if not equipment, I am thinking of going the fibre-optic route, our street is wired for this. Just wondered if anyone has any experience of it.

Thanks for looking at this.

Tco Sad

We have it and it is known in our house as virgin mediocre.

Our broadband router needs resetting at least 10 times a day. Speed varies as we share it with everyone who comes off same hub, so although we are meant to be a light speed, we are more plod speed. The customer support is tedious and follows a script. I regularly vent spleen at them.

Saying that nothing to compare it to as rather a one horse race unless we go with BT or sky...

Hi tco,

I am using them as we speak.

I have tried a few of the competitors, but Virgin is the best by far!
Give them a go,they have some good offers on at the moment. If you take phone/broadband/tv bundles that is.

Regards,
Lonewolf.

We recently changed from Orange to Sky for similar reasons and much to my surprise we've not had a single blip since we changed over. Orange simply claimed it was our distance from the exchange that was causing all the problems but we haven't moved nearer the exchange and all problems seem to have disappeared since we changed over - and speed has increased 50% too.

I'm sure a lot depends on local factors but from experience so far I'd recommend Sky.

Been with Virgin for a couple of years, never had any problem. Mine started with 2mb then they put it up to 4mb and now 10mb. I do check the speed regular and it maintains near max speed most of the time. I would recommend it.

Been with Virgin for 7 years (owned by Diamond Cable, then NTL, now Virgin)

Never had a problem, and my Internet is at present 10meg with unlimited downloads.

They are at present offering some decent packages, and are the cheapest way of getting HD tv. (which we don't have so can't comment on this service)

Hi

I`m with Virgin and for the main part they are good.I have the 20 meg service which I need for the upload speed more than the download, but be careful of the unlimited bit. They will chop of your connection, they call it capping or traffic shaping,to at least half of what you should be getting, and right when you need it most,in the evening times Rolling Eyes Phone them up and they will tell you it doesn`t exsist,it does.

Also been with Virgin [started as Telewest] on Blueyonder for a good few years. As higher speeds are introduced, they bump existing customers up to the next highest speed. Not the cheapest around, but I have only lost service twice in over 4 years.
This is on cable by the way.

Same as Dougle. Was telewest, then blueyonder now virgin. 10 meg line which is great.

Only had one bit of trouble and that was to do with a faulty lead.

Don't forget the free help number.

Personally, can't fault them.
