Just read Carol Weavers report on last years show in Dusseldorf, as she states it's a very well laid out show,we looked at a Rapido 992 MH which we now have, took our Rapido 999m there wouldn't do that again!! they parked us in rows (on the hook up site) with about a half a metre between each vehicle then had chains attached to post to block us in or to stop others gaining access,(Oh by the way my wife said to a german parked next door " they wouldn't allow this parking so close in England" he said "you not in England now") unusual but my wife agreed!! seriously it's not a park for the faint hearted, also the entertainment on site goes on quite late and the passenger planes thunder a few hundred feetabove your head starting about 6.30 a.m. but we did have a nice time Dusseldorf city is wonderful

Hi. is this what you are talking about, didn't bother us, I don't think there would be enough room st an Engkish show for all the vans that visited Dusseldorfe.

I am uncertain now, whether in my report I stated we didn't stay on the site as we had originally intended, why, well we had sold our Hymer before we left, and so had to quickly change our plans - ferry included to now take our little Clio and find a hotel close by. So we didn't even see the parking facilities, but I had thought they would be a bit like aires, close packed as they seem to be everywhere on the Continent.... UK is the only one that seems to have the 20' rule....

Mine was a Show Report as I had seen it, from my point of view, and when Dave had asked me to do it, I pointed out that I was looking for a new motorhome for me, and not going there to do a proper report, but I would write it when I got back and he could make up his mind whether to publish it.

The Show itself I thoroughly enjoyed, the trade hall was great, very helpful people there, I was a little disappointed in the accessories hall, as I had expected more... but for looking at what was new without any hindrance, and plenty of space to more around...it was the best I have ever been to.....

So if you are in the market for a new motorhome, and want to see the newest models first, go....

Carol

We weighed up the costs and decided to fly out. We had a late afternoon flight from Stanstead, and stayed in a B&B about 200 metres from the show entrance. We spent the whole day there the following day, and flew back that evening. We went to look at the 2008 Rapidos, and as Carol said, very well laid out and all models are there. We spent about 4 hours on the Rapido stand, with no hassle, only help.
We would certainly go to the show again if we were looking to see the latest models in a very relaxing enviroment.

We stayed in the Hotel Zur Luftbruke - which appears to be a hotel that is ONLY open now when there is an exhibition on, and we found it very convenient and very reasonable.

The tickets for the show (bought through joining the Club) meant that all buses and trains were free - which meant if you wished to explore Dusseldorf you could easily. We didn't as we were so tired walking around for 4 days from 10-6 - we just wanted to sit and rest and recall the mh's we had seen next day, and plan where which we were going back to etc.

The hotel only did breakfast (buffet) and no evening meals, but if we caught the train one further stop (from where we could get on) we found a great place for meals in the evening) and then caught the train or walked back...

Hi all,

We were there with Sid & Shirley, (SidT), and didn't find the spacing between MH's intrusive.
Here is a copy from our blog, whilst at the Dusseldorf Show. It may give you some more info, as it is well worth a visit.

Jock.

(Messe Report)

Peejay, (a trusted source of Continental touring info for many members), has asked us to report back on the Caravan Salon at Dusseldorf Messe. We’ll try.

The exhibition area, consists of seventeen halls, all with excellent toilet facilities, The halls are clearly marked, are interconnected, and movement between each is very easy. They are clean and well lit, and the vehicle displays are well laid out. There are external seating areas, with several food stalls/small marquees. All areas have excellent disabled access, and there is a small shuttle bus that runs between the halls, for those not wishing to view them all. Transport to and from the Messe is free and extremely frequent, and again, disabled friendly. We personally found the display staff at the trade stands to be very helpful, generous, and good communicators, even though we cannot speak German, (our problem, not theirs). Opening hours are from 10.00 – 19.00

At 19.30hrs the free bus shuttle bus (897) discontinues, and another (898) comes into operation, conveying visitors in and out of Dusseldorf. If you choose to go earlier, (advised, as the buses are packed), you can catch the Metro into Dusseldorf old town, at the North entrance of the Messe, and catch the 898 back, from the Opera House, opposite the Police Station. The 898 runs until just after midnight.

Metro tickets can be purchased from the machine, on the platform, on the train, or at main shopping hall in Dusseldorf, (for the return journey).

Camping Park

As you enter the Messe road system, you are guided to the parking areas, P1 & P2 for camping. You will be directed into the rows, and be pitched under the trees. Spacing is closer than we Brits are used to, but not so, as to be intrusive. The one and only service point is at the entry to these areas, but as there were several stewards waving us on, making sure that we didn’t stop, we missed it.

The camping park opens at 07.00 and closes at 18.00, and the cost of a pitch is €15, or €17 with electricity, (if you are lucky enough to get there in time). You have to vacate your pitch upon the day of departure, at 08.00. This is when the queue for the service area is at it’s longest, and it’s two rows deep.

There is a marquee for entertainment in the evening, whereupon meals can be purchased, as can breakfast of a morning. Alcohol is served both inside and outside the marquee. In the same area, there are toilets and showering facilities for all, and the standard of cleanliness are, good to very good.

Tickets to the Messe can be purchased at the small information centre at the Camping park service area, or at the entrance to Hall 17, (bus stop). Prices are €11 for a one day adult ticket, or €17 for a two day adult ticket. We would recommend the two day ticket, as there really is a lot to see, without even looking at half of the displays.

It all sounds very good, doesn’t it?

Now for the bad news. At it’s peak, aircraft movement overhead, is roughly about every minute, and they are only a few hundred feet above. So, bring you ear defenders, or a couple of bottles of your favourite tipple, and consume more than usual, if you want to get any kip. The earliest flight time I recall for A/C movements was 04.38. How do I know this? Because I was busy compiling this diary at the time. Yes it’s sad, I know. Lol.

We left there on Tuesday morning, having stayed 2 nights/1 day. We really enjoyed the Caravan Centre parking. We were right on the perimeter roads, and sat for hours on Sunday evening watching all the different MHs arrive.

The planes were noisy, and yes we were parked very close together, but that didn't bother us too much....the showers were interesting, definitely not for the shy!!!...or the big German fella trying to put his dressing gown on in the all too small shower cubicle Rolling Eyes
