I wanted to book The Red Shoot caravan site in the New Forest for 5 nights Tues 23/9 to Sat 27/9. I have been several time before and knew they were quite expensive but this is ridiculous. Their web site quotes prices as follows:

Sun to Thurs £15 per night (3 nights) £45
Fri to Sat £24 per night (2 nights) £48
Dogs £1 per night (no dog facilities provided) (2 dogs) £10
EHU £4.00 per night £20

Total £123 for 5 nights

I rang them to confirm the prices hoping as only one person there would be a reduction.

Prices quotes on the phone. Sun to Thurs £18 per night £54
Fri & Sat £27 per night £54
Dogs £10
Ehu @ £4. per night £20

Total (No hard standings) £138 for 5 nights

Checked the C&CC Verwood site, hard standing with awning and ehu £35.20 for 5 nights. Over £100 difference ( I am a member)

Apparently even if you book for a full week at the Red Shoot the increased prices for Friday and Saturday remain..

The Red Shoot is the base for the dog trial I am attending and just being sited at the base is very convenient, more fun, more camaraderie and no fuel costs in traveling back and forward from Verwood to Linwood in the new forest.

Just wondered if anyone knew of any other sites around Linwood that are open till 28/9 and more reasonably priced Than the Red Shoot

Thanks

Maggie

hi Maggie

before you book (or not) with Red Shoot, check with the organisers of your trial - they may have negotiated a discount for their event!

I have twice now organised dog events based at the Red Shoot, campsite & pub, and as an organisation we had a worthwhile discount for our members.

As to other sites in the area, it really depends on what sort of facilities are important to you. We have friends who regularly use a private fishing lakes sort of CL type place, for (I think) £5 a night - with their multiple dogs, it's near to Bashley. If you wanted more details, let me know and I'll ask our friends. (We've not used it as we live locally!)

Good luck.

best wishes
Sally

hi sally

Thanks for your reply. The organisers get a discount for the judges and helpers but not for the compeditors.

Do you know how far Bashly is from Linwood please. Really need electric but not bothered about anything else.

Hi David. Thanks for the info a couple of sites on there look hopeful.

Its just a bit difficult to figure out how far away they are from Linwood.

I would be happy with anywhere on the same side of the forest as Stoney Cross, Emerys Down or Ocknell. Happy to pay up to £15 per night

Thanks again for your help.
