I have a feeling there have been discussions about this before but I have obviously not understood.
When we use the water from our fresh water tank to make a cup of tea it has a slightly 'plasticky' taste. We don't notice it with coffee - probably because of the stronger flavour. We use bottled mineral water for cold drinks so that is not a problem and we don't notice any problem when cooking with the water from the tank. So my question is - any suggestions for rescuing my morning cuppa, other than making it with mineral water?
As a related thing, should we be putting something in the waste water tank to keep that 'healthy'
thanks
Chris

We simply buy a 5 litre bottle of water for drinking/cooking purposes. No problems, no costly fittings, no worry about water quality, and available at any supermarket in UK or Europe.
The fresh water tank is used only for washing.

I must have a stomach like a cement mixer as I use a garden hose to fill the tanks, never filter water and have even been known to drink motorhome tap water!
Easiest option for you is a large plastic milk container, washed out thoroughly and used as your fresh water store.

Like you Russell we both have stomachs like cement mixers - a legacy of years of travelling in unsavoury places but that morning cuppa is what keeps me (almost) sane and I am so fussy I insist on taking my own teabags everywhere.
Guess I will just have to use the bottled water unless I can persuade the boss to install one of those nice filter taps.

This is a topic I have responded to several times.
Over 19 years of motorhoming we have NEVER bought bottled water, we always use it from the tank We do have a Naturpure as already recommended, but have never had any problems, even before we had the filter (other than the plastic taste).
Naturpure will fix it. Easy
We are currently in Asian Turkey, drinking their water straight from the tank with no concerns at all.

I use bottled water for drinking hot or cold - 5L doesn't cost much in reality and you can get a lot of mugs of tea out of it so it's no big deal! I only use the van fresh water tank for washing, washing up and cleaning teeth.
If you get Asda's 'George' or baby essentials sterilising tablets (the same as Milton but nowhere near as expensive!) you can use them not only to sterilise baby bottles and beer making equipment but also to make water safe as it eliminates salmonella etc too. I think it's added at the rate of one tablet per 25L.
I usually use them to clean the system too - adding the appropriate amount of tablets to the water tank, leaving for half an hour (or whatever the recommended time is) then open taps (including hot) one by one and flush it all away.
Works on aquarolls and the like too.
