Hi Everyone
I have looked through the postings and cannot find anything on this so I thought that maybe someone might know the answer.
I have been looking at the Setanta sports website and see that it is possible to subscribe by quoting Sky card number and receiving through Skybox.
If I do this will I be able to receive the transmission when away in the motorhome (I have Oyster system)?
I know that when I subscribed to Sky sports I could only receive transmission at home.
If I subscribe to use Freeview (through aerial) will this work home and away?
Chris,
Don't know about Sky, but if you subscrice with Freeview you will need a compatible Freeview box or TV. You will also need these all the time you want to watch Setanta as you need an active viewing card. Most Freeview compatible TVs under 22 inch that were on sale before 1st January 2008 (and some of these are still on sale) did not comply with the legal requirement to provide a slot for the Common Access Module that will be required for the viewing card. So before you buy a TV check for the Common Interface slot.
Unfortunately, Setanta Sports is a very low budget transmission and therefore it uses the highest compression level. This means that on many TVs the picture quality will not be good. On a 1080p HD Tv it is almost unwatchable.

Had a phone call from Setanta the other day offering me a 3 month subscription for £5 per month. I went for it. Put the card in and activated it. Tried to recored something but after a few minutes got a "this is scarambled-channel unavailable" sign.
I also got same screen show whe wqatching a programme. Just for the sake of it I switched the PVR off and on again & it was ok. Then the same screenshoyt after a while.
When I check signal strength it shows -60% strength and 100% quality.
Could it be that aerial isn't good enough for Setanta? All other Freeview Channels are fine.
Also-does anyone know if I can get the footy channels (LFC ) with same subs?
Oh- Humax PVR....NOT Sky or Satellite
Thanks

Big problem with setanta is that their transmission is such poor quality that without the difference in colour of the kit, you would not know who is playing.
NEVER ever pay for a setanta subscription by visa.
They make it very difficult and costly to cancel because they know what many people dont - that you, the card holder cannot stop the payment from your account.

Telbell,
These are the installation instructions from Setanta, hope they help:
First remove the viewing card from the packaging, taking care not to bend it or touch the gold chip.
Insert the card into the Conditional Access Module (CAM) using the arrows as a guide with the gold chip facing upwards.
Switch off the TV at the wall.
Making sure you remove any remaining glue from the CAM, place the CAM with the viewing card into the Common Interface (CI) slot in the TV (refer to the product user manual to understand how this is inserted and do not force the CAM into the CI). It will only go in one way, usually in the direction of the arrows marked on the card.
Re-scan for channels and replacing any existing channels - use the user manual or Knowledgbase guide for instructions on how to do this.
Turn to channel Five (Digital) for 30 minutes, this is because Five is on the same multiplex as Setanta and will allow time for the card to be activated.
Turn off your television at the wall for 15 seconds, then turn back on and turn to channel Five (Digital). Setanta Sports viewing should now be active.
We use this script in the call centre and since we started using it we have not had a failure.
I think Gerry is right I have terrible trouble with Setanta and viewing the football. I end up not being able to see anything at all. They have resent the signal to my system about 4 times now to no avail. I have decided to cancel as I do not want to pay for something I cannot see!!!
Hi I have used it through a sat receiver even when in Spain so I cannot see the problem as for sky sports why cant you receive it when you are away you should be able to get the same channels that you subscribe to. The only reason you will not is if you use a different receiver then you need a dream box are something similar

Twinky-thanks but you're absolutely wrong- all I do is cancel the direct debit (on line banking) Done it many times & did it with Setanta last year before they brought out an " improved " service.
GerryD/carolgavin-thanks but done all that. The main problem seems to be when I'm recording- I was able to view the programme ok-(and had no problem in making out the PSG and Lille footy colours! - excellent quality picture - )
Kennyo-this is at home on Freeview - not when away
Thanks all- I'll just have to watch a favoured programe when it's repeated and not bother with recording.

Telbel - if you look back at my post you will see that I said VISA credit card payment. I didnt mention direct debit.
Of course if you pay by DD you can cancel easily........but you try cancelling a credit card payment to them!
I had merry hells trouble - even cancelling my visa account would not stop them - your credit card company will still pay them and chase you for the balance. I was even advised at one stage to report the card stolen to the police.
My father had the same problem - in the end it required me to complete a form from my CCard companys' fraud office who wrote to setantas bank informing them not to request further subscription. This they ignored, taking another months subs. I was reimbused and setanta was charged a fee - no money taken since.
I am waiting for the sales call from them soon asking if I'd wish to resubscribe - since I was such a valued customer
