Just back from Sth. Spain and Algarve. Withs skew set to max. clockwise (position 0 on LNB, about 32 degrees from vertical) I received channels which did not come in from position 1 to 5. These included Euronews and the four Irish channels but not the four UK ones, These came in, just about, for a couple of hour in the morning in clear weather as far south as Monte Gordo. As we travelled back the reception did not deteriorate even though I left the setting at 0, perhaps the signal strength overcomes the setting being incorrect, it should be at setting 2 to 3, about 20/15 degrees for NW France and Ireland. Perhaps it would be important to adjust the setting towards 5 (vertical) as one travels towards the northern and eastern fringe area's of the footprint.
So, the correct skew position IS important if one wants to maximise the performance of the dish, as mentioned in previous posts, mine is a 80cm Maxview Crank-up.
For the record in Quarteire (Algarve) I hooked my box to a 1.2Mtr.dish and received ALL the Sky channels.

Lnb Skew should be about the 7-8 oclock position .
Dish dish Angle from the vertical about 35deg' 1.3mtr dish
this is for southern Spain,CDS, but for uk I would say dish vertical and Lnb at the horizontal ,

Be absolutely certain that skew adjustment will improve reception everytime. Because its so difficult to be precise as it is different at each location the easy way is to turn it clockwise 20 to the hour as has been said. If you are in north spain or south france tune in to men & motors on 28.2 deg put the LNB at 20 to the hour then adjust the skew slowly one deg at a time and you will see the difference. My Kathrein Cap900 is very good at auto skew but I have tried to improve it manually and notice how different the various skew angles are. Central south ITV and ITV2+1 are stronger than ITV London and ITV2 without the +1. All those down this way try it . I have just checked the Skew here at Peniscola and on ITV Central south its -29deg IE its 16deg more clockwise than being in the original vertical position Smile

You'r right gelathae, Mine is the 66cm, was thinking about the domestic size used here. By the way BBC news plus G.O.L.D., Watch, Alibi, plus loads more come in perfectly ALL the time all along the south if Spain and Algarve on the 66cm. The only ones I lost were the UK and Irish publics ervice channels and a few more like M&M MTV's and other rubbish plus some of the time shift channels.

I find this site invaluable for calculating the Skew Angle and other info:

>> UK Satellite Help <<

If you set the correct Skew angle for say Paris then travel to Edinburgh. Resetting the Skew angle at Edinburgh will give about an extra 5dB gain.

Setting the Skew angle in Edinburgh then travelling to say Gibralter you may not be able to get reception in Gib without resetting the Skew angle. If I remember correctly the required difference in Skew angle between Edinburgh and Gibralter is about 7°.
