Hi all,

Google maps plus the sat nav is brilliant. its amazing how well this works out in the country side. if ur lost it will pinpoint ur position to within 10 feet. Go on say it, it doesn't work here!! I have found more places it does work than doesn't. And when it doesn't it still blips on a clear screen, you just don't have the map....duuu Embarassed

Anyone downloaded anything interesting yet!!!

Seen the spirit level? every camper should have one.
Its called Meetbubble, audio visual levelling. Shocked

Stanza, free reading books....there's a good selection of books. Idea

Flashlite. never b without a torch. Embarassed

Units, convert miles to kilometres. Confused

All these are free on iTunes to down load. Whats your favourite?

Hi,

Agree, it hammers the batterys. but when u have the power just walk round town and find the free wireless spots, u'll be suppressed how many there are. I have a cafe that's next to the Bell Inn and that's not password protected. Buy a coffee, access the internet!! Found lots locally.

Mc Donnalds WIFI is free, I'm told some of the coffee chains have fee WIFI.

All the best Wilt. Wink

Agree an excellent bit of kit but be careful if you use it to access the internet abroad. My son took his to Spain and was using it for access there, he ended up with a bill for £320!

MMM...

Went to France through Mid August and even though I read up on switching the roaming off I didn't trust myself.

So i left it at home. I'd only had the phone a week so I thought better safe than £320 sorry.

Roaming off and WiFi on is probably the way to go.

Problem is that it's the constant internet access that makes it work so well. U'r locked into the internet 24/7 which is good if its free.

All the best Wilt

Oh Thanks Garry for the tip about the Wi Fi draining the battery life as that is my only gripe so far and at the moment as it is using my home WiFi 24/7 the battery has needed charging twice in 2 days! Shocked

Also can you lovely people please tell me what is the speed like when you are not switched on to Wi Fi but you are in a 3G receptive location? I haven't been able to test out that side of the phone yet as there is no 3G signal showing on the phone from my home address and although I can still connect when WiFi is switched off - it is obviously not as fast as I assume the 3G connection will be. The speed when connected through my home braodband Wi Fi is as fast as my desktop and I am really impressed with the size of the screen and the webpage layouts etc.

I just wish I could use it in Europe as I can imagine it would be a godsend when touring around and wanting to find out information about the area you are visiting etc but there is no way I am paying the colossal roaming charges that we all get stung with if we dare to log on! How do you switch off roaming by the way as I have no idea how I make sure I am not connecting to the net in error. And finally, will I be able to take advantage of any FREE Wi Fi hotspots as we travel through France, Spain and Portugal and again how do I do that exactly? Sorry to ask so many questions but I like to know these things lol Very Happy

I look forward to reading your advice and suggestions.

Sue

Goto :setting........General.........Network.

U'll find the data roaming there.

Click off, should work.

Must admit I didn't have the nerve to try it in France this summer. Perhaps another year.

If you leave WiFi switched on then just keep any eye when it finds a WiFi connection, and you need to be pretty close to it. If it's not got a padlock symbol then you can use it.

All the best Wilt Wink

Thanks Wilt - much appreciated Very Happy

Yes I too would be reluctant to try it out whilst travelling through France and Europe - but what a shame to have such a useful gadget and then feel we cannot use it to its full potential. Me thinks it's about time they really brought the roaming charges down to a more acceptable level?

I know what you mean subaru as I found it really difficult at first - but I must say that the little stylus pen that I bought off eBay has made a huge difference and I am now finding I am quicker texting on my iPhone than I was on my conventional mobile phone! See here
