I saw the same info on another website this evening, unfortuneatly in Norfolk 5 is still not very clear on normal tv unless you watch it thro` the sat system.
Listening to the news this morning about the cut over to digital in the Borders Region which takes place today, not all channels (mainly the commercial ones) will be added to repeater stations. It will mean some will never be able to receive all digital channels and the only real option is for those reliant on repeaters for their reception, and who want to receive all digital channels, is to go satellite.
Thinking about the cost of converting to digital, if you need a replacement terrestial aerial and a Freeview box, it may well be more beneficial to convert to Freesat for both better reception and more channels at probably not too dissimilar cost to Freeview.
Of course if you are touring in the Borders, as of today, you will need digital equipment if you want to receive tele programs.

I have carried out a scan with my m/h sat system as it says in the manuel to do to search for new channels, however, channel 5 still comes up as scrambled. What am I doing wrong. I did the same thing when channel 4 became available with no problem.

Peedee,
This has always been true, however digital switchover will immediately give everyone more channels that they have ever had (other than the very few who will never be able to receive a terrestrisl signal). The repeaters will carry all public sector broadcasts, and now following a change in the broadcasting act channel 5 is a public sector broadcaster. They will also get the immense benefits of reception and picture quality that goes with digital. This may not be evident now but is very true after switchover.
Unfortunately, unlike the rest of Europe we have refused to invest in new transmitters and therefore those areas that rely on relays will still do so.
