I believe that if it is truly optional whether someone subscribes or not, then there should be no indication of who has and who hasn't.
For myself I viewed the site for a while before joining to see what the catch was and only started contributing when I saw someone ask a question that I knew fully the answer to with no one responding, had this been a subscription site I would not have entered it.
There is not much on here that I have not seen, done or heard about before but after 35 yrs of camping, caravanning and motorhoming I suppose you learn by your mistakes, as many on here do or have done.
I would donate voulentarily but I would not subscribe to any site, particularly if it is made into a them and us with little symbols.
Thats my twopenny worth. (or should it be £15 worth)

Well said Paulway

I am sure folk would rather be anonymus. Naming donators whether by name or symbol or by being able to have extras in whatever shape or form creates a 2 tier system.

can i just stress this once more as i am getting a few PMs from people with reference to the Subscriptions. One word is all i will say again "OPTIONAL"

lol

There's no need to beat about the bush Nukes.. If you are saying its optional then why not come right out with it. No point sitting on the fence, we can take it. Cool

I can see your point Paulway, but even with the icons removed people will still know who is a subscriber as they will be talking about things in the forums that invariably will happen.

I am considering Badgers idea of getting some nice, professional type laminated membership cards which are numbered so that these can be presented to campsites etc for discount purposes

I wil create a seperate post with an attached poll for whether we keep the gold icons or not, as i have said before this is a diplomacy and majority rules. The subscriptions are here to stay though purely on a logical basis in order to progress the community to another level

Enforced subscriptions voluntry or not for reward or not will stop a lot of people coming onto the site along with all their expertise. Smiffiee has already said he wont sign in again.

Hi Detourer and all

Lets not fall into the trap of trying to score points off of each other..........

What I hope we are discussing is just what is best for the site.....New registrations will not be affected ....there is nothing in the registration process mentioning subscriptions and the terms of service does not mention it either ( no need I suppose) ....so why would the registrations of new members drop?
if any of these new members wish to subscribe they will do so. Then it is up to Nuke to decide what they get for the money.

If the scheme had been set up as it is now with the word Donations used instead of Subscriptions and with no identifiable marks used to single out the donators then I am sure there would be little dissent.

The "Pay and Display" part of the current system is I am sure at the heart of the matter.

MHF is at the moment still the best place to talk motorhomes but the whole beauty of the internet is that tommorrow is another day and no doubt someone will be setting up another site just like this one.......maybe not with so efficient an administrator or with such great moderators ( creep creep) but I for one would like to see MHF stay at the top.

So I will jog along with the rest for a while and watch the outcome but I am just as fickle as most folk so maybe a change would do me good too......

Mike

If you have subscriptions will there then have to be yearly accounts that members can see? George Telford could do the books! Where is George anyway!
