When you put the mouse over a post in a forum, a window appears with the start of the message so you can get an idea of what the post is about before opening it.

Is it possible to have the same feature on the main index page showing the latest posts?

Some of the titles people use are not very explanatory and to click to enter every one and then exit again is time consuming especially when there are several hundred posts a day. A quick preview of what the post is about by moving the mouse over the title would be great.

I prefer to hope that the poster will learn that s/he gets better answers the better s/he titles the thread!

There are loads of good stuff I for one never see and only come across by an ad hoc search, and all because the title was utterly unhelpful so I never bothered to look. Life's too short.

I seem to recall that Nuke wanted to apply the preview to the front page but there was some technical reason why he couldn't do it. As he's now updating the site presentation perhaps he'll take another look at it.

The forum rules are quite specific on thread titles but unfortunately members either never read the rules or completely ignore them:

Please read the following guidelines for Forum posting
1. Before posting, search the forums. Be specific in your searches.

2. When posting, DO NOT give your topic a title of:

* HELP ME PLEASE!
* I NEED HELP!
* I have a question.
* BIG problem!
* needs help!
* Problems
* URGENT!
* HELP ME PLEASE.

or ANYTHING ambigious like the above!!!

Thank you Nuke

It seems that you have added the feature. Fantastic.

No No No Sad

Its not just the first couple of line but the whole of the initial post.

And once it is there I can't get rid of it. I end up with several previews superimposed one on top of the other. Its driving me mad Evil or Very Mad

Is it Me Question

I only noticed it today, but have not signed in for a few days.

Not sure if the browser makes a difference. I am using IE 8
