Hi, I am thinking of some form of photographic manipulating programme, but have limited knowledge of this and was wondering what other's use or would recommend.
thanks

Hi Dave, thanks for quick reply, do you use CS3 or CS4, is there a difference in cost, and what would you recommend of these two?
Where would be the best place to buy, PCWorld? They are showing Coral paint for £99, would I be better sticking to Photoshop?
cheers curlyboy
Hi, I'm no expert but have recently started experimenting with paint.net which is free (always helps!). I got mine off a cover disk on "Pc Explorer" issue 66, although you can download it from the paint.net website
There is also a brilliant forum which is full of tips, tutorials and additional plugins etc. You may want to browse there first and check some of the photos and drawings others have manipulated/drawn:
If you want the best product on the market then it has to be photoshop. I use CS3, not upgraded to CS4 yet.
However, it is a very big programme in terms of the learning curve. There is so much you can do it is awesome. But you can search the internet and find tutorials on almost anything you want.
Hi Chris, thanks, where would you suggest I purchase this, PCWorld don't seem to have it on their website. Can I download it, although this might take ages as we are up on Bodmin Moor, back of beyond as far as broadband speed!!

If you cannot find Photoshop in a local dealer, you can order online from Adobe and, I think, request a CD rather than download. You are right, it is a very big programme to download. Regarding your earlier questions re: versions, the number simply refers to later releases that have replaced earlier versions. So: CS, CS2, CS3, CS4 (current). The CS stands for Creative Suite.
Before buying a very expensive product aimed at professional designers / photographers (£570 from Adobe) check whether Photoshop Elements would do what you require. It has many of the features of the full product and is designed for amateur photographers / casual users. It costs around £70.
Not so different to Photoshop Elements, but you can often get "last year's model" very cheaply on Fleabay - like six quid when Mrs Zeb got a copy recently for a friend!!
Nothing much of any consequence changes from year to year (unless you are an expert user) so why pay for all the bells and whistles that you will most likely never use?
