Hi there,

I was camping in Spain last year when I met with some nice people from N England.

They were driving some big American beast and with their 4 children had been travelling for over 4 weeks.

Having always had a fascination with the RV's I questioned them on how they get about.
They hire a car if they need to do any sight seeing.

Comparing that with ourselves at that time where we could just jump in to our car and go in the whole 14 days we were down in Spain if we went out 4 times at the most so in fact apart from getting from home to site there we hardly used our car.

I think we children, their needs are quite simple and if you choose your site well they won't want to move around.

And if you don't have children with you then doesn't matter either way.

Hugh

Hi OldSoldier & Arizona,

Welcome to the site,we had seven caravans Embarassed before buying a motorhome,i have told the story of why on my own intro last year,we are now on seventh motorhome.

OldSoldier you have said what every caravanner says to us,but you have to pack everything up before you go anywhere and i say to them why do you throw everything on the floor then, because surely as you use something you pick it up and put it away, everything has a place, like at home,Just try to travel with less stuff. We are ready to move in minutes and when you travel twenty miles and find somewhere lovely you can stay and enjoy it and not have to go twenty miles back to your caravan for tea.Hope you will love it,best thing we ever did......

Drummer what do you mean you are no good to woman or beast, thought we were off into the sunset in my Hymer Confused Wink .

A little about ourselves. Dad was in the Army and was stationed in France, when I was around 10 years old. He use to borrow a 160lb army tent and it was balanced, along with the large poles, on the roof of our Austin A40 as we toured around Europe. One day as he and Mum, with me and my sister being more of a hindrance than a help, struggled to get this monster up, a Caravan pulled in, pitched and had a cooked lunch. Our tent was still not ready. He bought a little 10ft Sprite the following year and apart from a few gaps during my 24 years service with the Royal Signals, I have caravaned ever since. In fact I bought the last Sprite off him when he lost his sight which started me off on my own.
Les and I have been married for 5 years, she has only been caravaning since we met and not a total convert I must admit! I'm sure the change to the Motorhome will help, she is really keen on it.
We live just outside Wells in Somerset, a lovely part of the country. In fact we seem to get half the country descending on us every year. We have the Somerset Carnivals every November, Pilton (Glastonbury) pop festival is 2 miles away from the house, Cheddar and Wookey hole caves are on the doorstep as is the coast at Weston-super-mare, Breen, Minehead and Watchet. The Mendip Hills smile down on us and we cycle the Somerset Levels a lot of the time. Glastonbury itself is just down the road, and we often get "high" just by breathing in the air! Street and Clark's Village is about 5 miles away and Bath and Bristol are close enough for a day out. Anyone thinking of coming this way let me know, I know of some great sites.
Enough for now I hear you say! Laughing
Regards. Pete.

Not sure what this has got to do with me, unless you think I'm full of it!
