hi dave, i think i did what you said but no luck. what i did was click on the name below the photo typed in jpeg, is that what you mean ? thanks. dennis
No, I meant if you RENAME the file from *.THM to *.JPG, you will magically see exactly what you have got as soon as you double click on it or othewise open it. It will be a SMALL photo, as witnessed by its small file size
hi dave , perhaps you could run me through how to do what you suggest, ps you do know i'm i use a mac running leopard, thanks, assume i know nothing, dennis,

I don't run leopard but I'll do my best. The Images will be from Tiger but I hope they will be similar enough
Put the CD in and it should appear on your desktop double click and it will open in 'Finder' You cannot change the names on the CD so you will have to import them. (See next paragraph) Presumably you have already got this far if the only files you can see are .thm click on one to see what finder tells you about it.
At this stage I would open iPhoto then do 'File', 'Import to Library'. This should open another copy of your finder window and by clicking on the cd Icon you should be able to get to the photos. Highlight them and click import.
iPhoto should do the rest. It should be OK with all the possible image types. It may be that the CD includes only thumbnails in which case you cannot go further or it may have the jpgs or RAW files as well.
If that fails for some reason you could try from the original finder image select 1 file as a trial and drag and drop it on to your desktop. This gives you the ability to change the file name.
Go to 'Finder' and 'Desktop' it then should tell you all about the file again and click on the file name to edit it replacing thm with jpg to fool the system as Dave suggested earlier.

you the man frank, i've done what you said, got them on my desk top and been changing them indevidually to jpegs, is there a way to change the whole lot in one go ? as i've got a lot to do,thanks very much for the time spent helping me, dennis
I sense a reluctance to use iPhoto, but just wonder perhaps iPhoto doesn't come free with a mac any more (its a part of iLife which you can buy).
I don't think there is anyway of changing a batch of files at one go - but there may be.
