I've been lurking on the site and posted a couple of times but now I'm hooked so I'd better introduce myself. Where else can you rabbit on about your weekend without having to see people's eyes glazing over ? Smile

We were, when our children were growing up, tenters and then caravanners and we've hired motorhomes several times. Now they've left home and we are about to retire so we gathered every penny we could find and bought our own Autoquest 200 a few weeks back. We now have a spare room full of bags of things " to go to the van" We used to be very minimalist campers but it looks like that has changed. We're finding the advice given on the forum very useful.

We've done lots of short UK trips so far but, when the Big Day comes we'll be on the first ferry, turn right out of Calais docks and.....who knows ? That's what we bought the van for. We've yet to convince family and friends that spending a long time in a metal box no bigger than our bathroom in the middle of a damp field is a wonderful thing but we love it !

Turning left out of Dublin or Rosslaire docks has a lot going for it too..... driving on the left but euro currency and kilometers instead of miles... plus English as the main language in most places. And cheap diesel! Wink

Hi and welcome Grizzly,

Glad you decided to join in, will look forward to hearing about your adventures.

hear hear!

I got the "why do you do it" when I spend every weeekend on a small yacht being tossed around the Thames Estuary on my own.

If you love it.... do it!
They're probably jealous!
