In the market for a sat finder, but they range from a few quid to £350+.

I want the easiest to use, as we are getting old!

Maplin seems a good bet.

Thoughts?

Hi

I bought a wolsey one like you can get here http://www.satellitesuperstore.com/satellitemeters.htm

Not cheap but sooooooooooo easy to use. It tells you when you are on the correct satellite and then gives signal strength and signal quality bars on the display.

It's the one SKY engineers used to use (and they may still do)

I used to use the cheap £14.99 ones on ebay but got so frustrated picking up the wrong satellite

My thoughts are:

1) Buy one of these:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=48325&C=Maplin&U=SearchTop&T=satellite%20meter&doy=1m7

2) Read, understand and follow this post:
http://www.motorhomefacts.com/ftopicp-426380.html#426380

3) Give your partner a £335 treat with the money you save.

That cheap eBay one doesn't allow for the 22kHz band-switching tone, as described in the references I quote. Still works, but potentially more hassle.

Have you tried with out one yet?

Just we have one but dont often use it now, I just point the dish in the right direction and use the signal meter on the TV to tune it in. I would just make sure you have a half decent compass and give it ago.

A basic sat meter will find the sat you want , Believe me I use them all the time and can find Astra 2d in seconds , you need to point the dish in the correct direction firstly and have the elevation right , or you could be at it for hours , I install sat tv and only use the pro meter for Lnb tuning.
download Satellite for caravans it might help you understand the setting up. A meter can be bought on Ebay cheaply ,

Buy a free to air box from Maplins and you won't need a satellite finder. Cost is between £40 and £50. You do not get the delay as you do with a sky box. So all I do is have the box tuned in to receive sky news on astra 2d and turn the dish until you get the programme. There is also an onboard satellite tone finder but there is no need to use it.

After a bit of practice in my garden I can get a signal on my maxview crankup quicker than an auto sysytem such as Oyster. I'm new to satellite systems this autumn but could not believe how easy it was to get a signal in europe. And I'm not remotely technically minded.
