Over the last three to four weeks we have had problems with our Sky Free Sat switching from on to standby. Often at night when we are recording which results in only half the programme being recorded. It has sufficient ventilation and we have gone through the unplugging, re-plugging, checkintg the connections and replacing the card procedures. Anyone any ideas please.
As far as I am aware, a recording will take place whether the box is in standby or not, so it sounds as if you have another problem altogether. Does the failed recording have a reason that makes any sense? Clashed, Technical Fault, Power Cut etc.
I think it's a cynical attempt by Sky to appear more environmentally friendly. They appear to have modified the settings in the latest software update so that the box switches to standby if no control input is received for 4hrs.
So why cynical?
Some time ago, when doing an exercise to ascertain which appliances should be left on standby and which should be turned off at the mains I measured the online/standby consumption of both Digiboxes that we use. Both are Pace boxes, one quite old and one much younger. Both boxes used 9watts on standby and guess how much when switched on?
Yes, you're spot on - 9 watts.
So turning either of my Digiboxes to standby is a total waste of time and it's impossible to switch them off when not in use unless you're prepared to wait five minutes or more for them to search the stations every time.
Like I said - cynical in the extreme.

had the same problem for last few months , over night the sky + box we have switches itself off totally, when we come to watch sky it as switched back on but on the instructional channell 999 (or there abouts,) my setting is set for standby off.
new software has been causing problems, you could try this
1) Put into Standby
2) Take out viewing card
3) Power Off at Mains
4) Power On (after 10-20 seconds)
5) Press On after 30 seconds or so.
6) Planner was available
7) Insert Sky Card again
Wait for update to channels again
They wanted £65 from me for a replacement box. Told them I would not pay any more and would have to cancel my subscription if it wasn't replaced free. Have new box and engineer's visit FOC.
