In Spain – in rain and wind, hubby is reluctant to put up Oyster sat dish, so is yet again attempting to get a 1100 mm dish working lent to us by the camp site owner, however, it did not come with a LNB.

We went out and bought a Universal single LNB marked 0.2 DB.
He has lined up the dish using satellite finder to maximum signal with the LNB attached but is failing miserably to get any signal, the Sky digibox remains void of life, might I add at this point, when using Oyster we can get all UK channels from where we are assuming the heavens have not opened up!

Now question, is it him being usually numpty or is the LNB under rated, does size matter?

Either he doesn't know how to manually aim a satellite dish at Astra 2 with a Sky digibox (I have posted about this recently) or the LNB is not matched to the dish and therefore not at its very sharp (given its size) focal point.

The first is more likely, but it could be the second.

Contrary to common belief size does matter... Shocked Very Happy

The 0.2 dB rating is the Noise. The lower the noise the better and 0.2dB is about the best you can get noise-wise.

Ask him to check that the cables are properly connected to the connectors (no shorts) and and the connectors properly screwed to the terminals.

Check the Skew Angle as well.

Oh and that he's looking in the right bit of the sky. Very Happy

Castaway..
If you get signals on the oyster then you will get then on the 1mtr..
The extra size should help with the rain issues as wet weather does absorb the signals from the satellite..
You said hubby is tuning to maximum signal, my suspision is that he is aligning on a wrong satellite...That would be indicated on a Sky box with good signal and no quality signal.. You need to get both signals present.

Good luck, tell him to have a break and try again.... Sounds like the LNB is working...

Big dish was one I fitted for one of england players who lived in Madrid some time ago Wink They missed the Brit TV....

Does size matter?
It certainly does.

The general rule is the larger the dish, the harder it is to align.

With a 1100mm dish and a Sky Digibox you're going to need some patience and practice. Rolling Eyes

You haven't said where you are in Spain.

These are the settings for Malaga - they should work good enough to find the satellite if you're elsewhere:

Name: 28.2E Astra 2A-B-D
Distance: 38152km
Elevation:35.4°
Azimuth (true): 133.0°
Azimuth (magn.): 135.0°
LNB skew: -28.4° (about the 8 minutes past position)
