Paul, thanks mate. I really appreciate this info. I have seen the extra LWB, there's a year 2000 one on Ebay right now for Buy-it-now of £3750, not sure I want to spend that on a base vehicle but then again I could be living in it for a long time so a reliable van is paramount. There's also an Iveco 2.5 coach/minibus with power door, these are higher, wider and windows you can look out from when stood up.
What do you think of the Iveco coach for a camper?
I'm glad you enjoy your boat. Do you get value for money with mooring fees or do you you trailer it away whenever you use it?
ye i seen the 2 vans you mean there is also a red 1 ex royal mail on there body bit tatty but nowt a lick of paint wont cure and its the same syle as mine that was on a buy it now for under a 1000
Hi Shane,if you are on about full timing the last thing you want is the bus --- too many windows = too cold in winter and too hot in summer.Your best bet is a panel van My own fav is a ambulance (see avatar) but this involves a lot of work, but is very well insulated. There are some 2005 reg panel vans under 3 k, but only 2000 model buses for same money.Good luck on your search and keep us informed

Thanks for the advice. Yes, full time.... or tour around England at leisure, i.e. until money runs out) until I find somewhere nice to live (with a waterway), buy a small boat and live in it full time.
I thought that a van with lots of windows might be very hot in the summer. I have been looking for a van with windows that open at the top to allow air circulation.
I intend having a solid fuel stove (pot belly) in my camper, with the window open slightly would I still get condensation or more or less condensation than with a Propex heater?
I'm bidding on a van right now which has windows. Some people do have vans with windows too don't they? How do they tend to find their living condition?
you found a van yet mate i been offered a ldv 400 convoy worth 1000 for 700 if your in a rush not a clue on details but if you need a van can get details for you
Thanks for all the information here, proving to be very helpful.
Me and some friends are trying to convert an old bus/ van to travel around europe.
Does anyone have any idea what the GVW of the iveco mentioned here is, ive been looking into one to convert (FORD IVECO 49/10 2.8TDi TURBO DIESEL EX LONG WHEELBASE MINIBUS)
I was just wondering because we have only had our licences since 2002/3 and so cant drive anything over 3.5 tonne.
Also does anyone have any idea of how we would go about getting insurance once we convert?

I don't know but I would think it would be close to or above your allowable GVW limit. Might be a good idea to PM some of those who have contributed to this thread and who may miss your question.
Regards insurance, again I don't know but asking your insurance company to provide the criteria that you must stick to when converting to a camper/motorhome would be an idea. I never went ahead with the Iveco Horsebox thing but when the idea was fresh in my head I had decided that I would convert it to my own, unique requirements and insure as a horsebox because the insurance companys might not like my wood burning stove and workshop.

Yep, the 49 bit doesn't sound quite right but it does sound as if it will be too heavy. Usually the first 2 no's indicate the gross weight i.e. 4.9 tonnes.
