Hi all,

We have a Technomate USB PVR ready satellite receiver. Other than the ,
Sandiskcan anyone recommend something similar, or perhaps a mini USB powered Hard Drive for PVR recording from the rear of the receiver?

Any ideas or pointers will be gratefully appreciated. (The link doesn't appear to be working).

Cheers,

Jock.

P.S. Going out shortly, so won't be able to respond to any immediate replies. Wink

Hi Jock,

We use a small SATA external hard drive (which is the same size as a pocket calculator) which is powered from the USB port and is very fast. The one we have on the Technomate at home is 250gigs. It also comes in handy when away, for storing photos from the digital cameras. These type of hard drives are very popular and are availible online and in places like Currys, Comet etc.

Why not have a look at the following products. I have no connection with the company whatsoever, only as a satisfied customer.

John

Hi John,

Thanks for the links. I did try a 2Gb Kingston USB stick as an experiment, and it worked fine. I then looked at the Sandisk Cruzor Micro 16Gb flash drive, however, the one I bought came from a disreputable source on fleabay. It's a pity that the warnings from Ebay and Paypal didn't arrive until after I made the purchase. When I contacted Sandisk, they confirmed it to be a fake. The upside is, that I have now been refunded by the seller, and still have a 16Gb memory stick for photos, data and MP3................but not suitable for video recording.

Much along the same line as your second link, I have gone for the item I linked earlier, from Ebuyer.
I can kill more than one bird so to speak, and it will act as extra storage for the laptop.

Cheers,

Jock.

Hi Jock

Do you know if you can playback files from this hard disk on the Technomate that were not recorded on the Technonmate. i.e divx files or something else from a p.c.

Good question Soundman.

The answer doesn't appear to be listed in the extended spec >>Here<<
Where would I find that info?
The receiver will display Jpeg, MP3, and other files that were on the USB stick, so I am hoping that video files on the pocket HD won't be a problem.

The USB menu gives options, amongst which are "file list" and "data transfer", so here's hoping. Confused

Tina, could you ask Glenn please? Wink

Jock.

I do know that a file recorded on the USB device from the Technomate is in an unsual format but with the correct software on a pc it will playback.
