I nearly got it sussed, but I think I've been fiddling too long today - now can't see the wood for the trees. Sad

My new setup is:-
1) HDMI/Viera plasma TV (Panasonic)
2) HDMI Home Entertainment Centre (HEC) (Panasonic)
3) Sky +

I have two problems. Can't get the TV or Sky+ sound to play through the HEC, and some on-screen ghosting when watching Sky+.

I have two F leads from the LNB, one Coax from the aerial, one Coax flylead, one HDMI lead, and two SCARTS. I've tried loads of different permutations to get the TV sound through the HEC, but I can't get it.
The HEC audio works fine on FM, iPod & DVD/CD. The TV works fine on analogue, digital & AV.

Connections:- I've tried several permutations, e.g:-
Combination 1
a) SCART from Sky+ to TV1
b) SCART from HEC to TV2
c) HDMI from HEC to TV
d) Aerial direct into TV

Combination 2
a) SCART from Sky+ to TV1
b) HDMI from HEC to TV
c) Aerial direct into TV

Combination 3
a) Aerial direct into Sky+
b) Coax flylead from Sky+ to TV
c) HDMI from HEC to TV

plus others I can't be bothered to list - you get the idea.

All I want is to have successful connections between the three pieces of kit, so I can change between digital TV, Sky+ & the HEC, and have the TV sound work through the HEC.

Re. the ghosting, I changed the RF output to channel 37 which cleared up earlier RF interference, but the ghosting happens when I connect with the SCART. That's a lesser issue though - then main one is getting my head round the three pieces of kit & how best to connect them. Crying or Very sad

Any help would be much appreciated.

Dougie.

This is how i get mine to work:

HDMI from sky to tv

audio lead from sky to cinema system (can be phono or optical)
plug aerial coax into tv for DVB-T on tv

I have a similar set up but with a Virginmedia set top box.

I think that you will have to concentrate on the Viera Link settings.

Although the manuals say that you will nly need one remote i am still using three ( TV, home cinema and DVD/VHS recorder) to get the boxes to do what I want.

Hi Dougie
What model TV is it?

I had a simular problem with linking a TH-46PZ81B to a HEC Panasonic model SC-PT460 and resolved it by setting the HEC to AUX.with only a HMDI connection from the HEC to the TV

It's a TH-42PZ85B, and the HEC is a SC-PT560EB-K.

Snelly, your setup sounds stupidly straightforward. I'll see if I can unearth an audio lead & try that. What colour plug is the lead (if that's not a daft question Embarassed )?

Dougie.

FWIW

If you use an optical cable from the sat box or TV or DVD player etc to the sound system you get a much better sound with full surround effects.

Dougie,
Think Shane has read it wrong. You appear to have Sky+, not SkyHD. So:
HDMI from HEC to TV
Scart from Sky+ to TV
Optical from TV to HEC to provide audio
Co-ax aerial direct to TV for Freeview.

This way the HEC gives audio for DVDs and by switching to Aux input, all audio from TV will be heard through HEC.

I think what you need to do is instruct your Viera which Aux (1,2,3,4,5) is the correct one to output to. I know is sounds confusing. Your Viera should act as a switching centre. The HEC is usually the one to designate to. So if your HEC is connected to AUX2, then you need to tel the Viera that that is the designated output. Then anything being input to the Viera (say your SKY HD is on AUX1) this is then re-routed sound wise to the HEC. Hope I am making sense. I don't have a Viera so cannot give detailed menu instructions.

SORRY SORRY SORRY Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

I do have Sky+, but forgot I also have a second-hand Sky HD box which I will connect shortly (my logic was to get the known-quantity Sky+ box working before introducing another factor into the equation). So I guess I'm actually asking for advice about the as-yet unconnected Sky HD box.

Doh.

Dougie,

You can be a pain in the A***.
In that case with the Sky HD, follow Shanes advice regarding the HDMI but still go for the Optical from the TV rather than the Sky HD. This is the configuration that I have for my Freesat PVR and Freeview TV.
