Search is case-insensitive.
Words must be >3 characters long.
you can use * as a wildcard (bird* will find bird, birdy and birdman, but not mockingbird).
Use word1 word2 to find all posts which contain either word1 OR word2.
Use +word1 +word2 to find all posts which include both word1 and word2.
Use +word1 +word2 -word3 to find all posts which include both word1 AND word2, but NOT word3.
Use "word1 word2" (with the double-quotes) to search for exact phrase.

Just got back from a trip to Northumberland taking photo's so just found out the good news.
I'm honored to have been selected (even though my own favorite came nowhere) in such a quality competition.
In response to the questions viz luck or patience. It's niether really I just researched when the round ups took place and (along with many other snappers) went to the Camargue at that time. It's sort of set up for these photo opportunities and I just snapped away.
I imagine the others next to me got similar if not identical shots.

Richard well done, I must admit to voting for Colins myself, yours is still a great shot.
I am curious though why you chose to take your pictures in black and white, is there a particular reason? I ask because when I started with my trusted brownie camera, that was all there was, and we thought it was fantastic when colour film became available - is it because it seems to give more atmosphere.... Curious and trying to learn

There is still a beauty in black and white that gets lost in colour.

The reason for shooting in B&W is simple, B&W is so much more challenging than colour. You can't rely on pretty colours to lift a bad picture you must look elsewhere for impact, drama etc. I of course shoot loads of colour snaps but keep to B&W for my personal photographs.

Thanks Richard, my daughter chose 6 years ago to have all her wedding photos in B&W - we took colour as well ourselves of course. I also seem to recall that if you wanted to develope B&W it now cost a lot more than colour (or did when I last even looked), I print out those odd photos myself of those usually of my grandchildren I wish to - but most are just used as my screensaver - such a brilliant idea, you look in and relive holidays or places you have visited...

My favorite own shot was Durdle door my favorite shortlisted image was the kid in the pebbles.
Regarding gear, This was shot on a mechanical Nikon F2AS with a 300mm f2.8 on tri X film scanned on a Nikon coolscan V ed.
For digital I've been using a Nikon D300 but I have just got a D700 so that I can use all of my old Nikkors.
I have not shot much with it yet but it is great having that big viewfinder back and the old lenses take some beating. I may well be selling it and the D300 soon to fund a new D3x!
