You may have missed this, but the Government is proposing to relax the capping of fees charged by Local Authorities for issuing these permits, some can go up to as much as £50.

Just renewed ours at £2 valid for 3 years I think Very Happy Very Happy They should not issue so many badges then they could do it for free!

SWMBO's expires this year. My opinion is that even if it were £50, for 3 years it is very cheap parking.

Hadn't looked at it that way but yes it could be true although many councils are charging blue badge holders unless the vehicle is VED exempt which I think is a bit daft because all folk do is go and park on yellow lines.

As peedee implies it depends where you park. In our area "Blue Badge" spaces in car parks have to be paid for at the same rate as none-badge holders-it's just that they are usually nearer the shops, supermarket or whatever.

Yes if £50 included free parking it's good value but no Local Authority will turn down an offer for more income so here it'll no doubt be fifty quid and car park fees

I can understand blue badge spaces being closer to the shops, ramped access and larger spaces, but why shouldn't they pay like everyone else?

Cann't argue with you at all on that but it is daft because the blue badge also gives you the right to park on yellow lines albeit for only 2hours on doubles. You only have to go to the places which charge and the disabled slots are empty and the High St is full of Blue badge holders parked on yellows. Do it myself when I am driving the better half about in such areas.

peedee - I think that you will find that "Blue Badge holders" in England and Wales can park on single or double yellow lines for 3 hours not 2, except where there is a ban on loading and unloading. However there are exceptions to this in parts of London. There is no time limit for parking on yellow lines in Scotland.

At "on-street" parking meters and "pay-and-display" machines badge holders may park for free for as long as they need to unless there is a traffic sign displaying a time limit for badge holders.

Brian

Slightly off topic but it really annoys me when the designated places are used by non blue badge holders. Tesco Thurrock - you can't move sometimes for all the chavs and chavettes in their modded corsa's all parked in the disabled bays. Anyone dare to ask them to move? No, I thought not.

Some Asdas actually have a clamping/tow away policy which keeps the places clear.

On the other hand, whilst appreciating the difficulties, some blue badge holders park in ridiculous places, plus some of them look suspiciously mobile. I understand that they are making more rigorous checks and also clamping down on fraudulent discs, so perhaps that is why the fee has gone up
