We have a Eura Mobile 580A without much roof space and find myself attracted to the planar/ flat-sat option. I feel the lower profile keeps us under 3m height, less visible means better security, lower windage etc. In motion is no advantage to us but I believe they are the equivalent to bigger dish than a dome so this would be a plus. Sadly they seem to cost more!

My plan would be to replace the existing more or less useless [see photo] TV aerial some how.

We had a Teleco Easy 85cm system fitted last July, we were tempted to buy a dome but reports that the signal was greatly reduced the further south you travelled so decided to go for the auto 85cm system, which even in southern spain performed extremely well. Fully automatic press a button and away you go. It comes with a number of other settings for other satelites which we have not really bothered with. In my view an excellent product.

Regards

Alan and Jean

To the original poster. If I was you I would have the Dome with a free to air 12v box such as that sold by Lidl or Maplin. I have the Kathrein Cap900 which I am certain is the best pan european dish system and the advantage over a good dome is not as much as you may think. I can fully automatically get reception where a dome will not and an oyster will not,(I have tested them side by side but its marginal) Frankly at these locations the sun normally shines and I dont sit in watching TV. Just tune in to Astra 1 at 19DegE and you will pick up many news channels and some fun stuff like MTV germany (smile) which shows stuff entertaining for fun people with a broad mind. Also eurosport germany but a Man U shirt looks the same on any TV and formula one is always on Spanish TV. My dish will stand a good amount of wind but there is no contest with a dome. Some dishes cannot stand much wind at all. Finally if you get a dish try to get one with auto skew or have the installer set it to the 20 minutes to the hour position. This is not completely accurate but a good average setting and makes a big difference down here in Spain. As you have been already advised speak to Snelly or Vanbitz both members on here

Hi All

As the original poster I thought I would let you know that my Camos 40cm Dome was fitted today by Leisure Tech in Clitheroe. So far (well a couple of hours) I am very pleased with it. The chaps at Leisure Tech were very helpful throughout the fact finding and purchasing process they also managed to install a new gas hot water control unit as mine was goosed. the job was finished very profesionally and I got a good demo on how it all works (probably forget by the morning) I would recommend them if anyone is thinking of getting similar or other MH work done. Without the help from the forum however I would probably never have known what to buy so thanks very much everyone who contributed. We are off to the Isle of Arran tomorrow in the van so I should get a better idea of the performance of the dome in the next week or so!
