For what it's worth I've been using the following low budget 12/230 volt system in Dordogne, SW France, and it works well on all the free channels:

1. Sky 45cm "mini dish" with quad LNB (both redundant from UK as Sky generously gave me a new one when I moved house - I only connect to one of the four LNB sockets).

2. Maplins Comag SL30/12 receiver

3. Asda Onn 15" LCD TV/DVD combi 12/230v (£104 last December!!)

4. Aluminium tripod from Amazon (Netgadgets).

I also bought a cheap satellite finder but have never used it - I set up with a compass, set the Comag to "Info" - this gives satellite strength and quality, and then waggle the dish - suddenly I have Ann Robinson appearing in the Hymer..

Re. Maplins I ordered a SL25/12 but they sent a SL30/12 for the same price £49.99 (no reason given).

Re. Asda, in my local "super store" they had no clue as to which TVs were 12/230v - so I just looked along the TV display shelf for external power supply units at the back of the sets - best also to check in the boxed item they then produce for the 12v supply unit in case they have substituted a similar mains only unit.

One query: the Comag, which I set up in UK, lists BBC News 24 but actually gives Channel 5 on this channel (it also has channel 5 correctly elsewhere)- anyone know why?

Hope this is helpful,

John
