I'm after a small safe for passports and stuff for the van. I don't want to be drilling holes in the floor so i'm after one that you can attach to a secure part of the van with a cable.
A MHF search didn't throw up much and all I've found so far is >this<

Can anyone recommend this or any other products please?

Pete

Surely these are no deterrent? I have had bicycles stolen secured by much stronger security cables than that shown.

i've had a small safe in the last two of my vans, similar to those non electronic ones from B and Q.
Although i bought Them from JTF for about £8! I know it's not secured by a cable but it has fixing holes on the back and on the top so you can if you wish bolt it through something, with coach bolts on the outside there's nothing to get hold of to remove it without making alot of noise!

Pete what you want for £15.............. Fort Knox!

Anything under £50 odd and not BOLTED to the chassis is a waste of time, you asked, I responded. Smile

There's one in B&Q, Pete - :: LINK ::

ODB has one, too.

A varied selection from good old Screwfix :: HERE ::

Anything possible under a front seat, pete? That's a standard fitting by Murvi - you could always ask equipment they use. It gives a sizeable unobtrusive metal locker with a circular-key lock.

Is there nowhere to bolt a secure box? I'd be reluctant to use a cheap cable lock - easy to find, attractive to take and easy to break anything other than really thick reinforced cable.

Hello All
My solution to this was to get a safe from B&Q of the appropriate size and put it under the passenger seat. To do this I had to take the seat off of the seat box, place the safe inside the box and secured it with plastic coated cable then put the seat back on. The safe is too big to get out through any of the access points in the seat box so the cable is just a bit of extra security. Once it was in I padded the safe in position so that it didn't flop about and so I could open and close the door easily.

I worked on the theory that this would be enough to deter any but the more determined or professional thief and that it was a reasonable alternative to drilling holes here and there.

This makes me feel a bit more secure anyway, others may disagree.

All the best

bill

I'm a bit reluctant to go drilling holes in the floor for a safe but the general concensus here seems to be that cable attached safes ain't 'safe' then. Question

I was working on the premis that anything must be be better than just hiding things around the van which is what we do at the moment. The plan was to attach it to the passenger seat frame, perhaps I'll have a rethink.

Hi peejay, checkout halfords, bought mine there, exactly as you describe, with quite a hefty armoured cable, two in fact, that can be looped around both sides of the frame, making it impossible to pull the safe far enough out to cut. Think they are called autosafe.
