I've personally had good results from an HP Scanner, although I would think anything from HP, Epson or Canon would do a good job for you.

I would agree with that, any of the major manufactures have decent scanners and even bundle software to enhance photos. In addition, there are some on the market that will scan direct from old 35mm Slides or Negatives.

I'm currently scanning all our family photo's, some of them of ancestors dating back to the early 1900's. It's great fun bringing out all those memories.

A typical scan setting of 300dpi is recommended for normal photo's, but should you get any scratched or badly damaged, I normally scan at 1200dpi allowing fine detail alteration.
