Erneboy, I'm sure it's 500MB for €12, if the Internet Max tariff is still available. Is anyone using it at the moment?

Regarding MWConn - if you use an unlocked non-Orange dongle then it will not have the right connection software pre-installed, so you have to use third party software. MWConn is pretty simple to use - really you just have to enter the Orange France APN (Access Point Name) and ask it to find a connection.

But 9€ for a dongle is astoundingly cheap, Randonneur - does it come with any data allowance, and if so what duration? If you can buy it online in France that sounds the best solution, but you will of course need a French address for delivery.

I assumed that I was asked to go into an Orange shop and provide an address because I got hasty and activated the Mobicarte whilst still in the UK, then didn't use if for several weeks until I got to France, and that made them suspicious. But maybe it's just a legal requirement and we all have to do it? I gave the address of the Ebay woman I bought the dongle from, without her knowledge - bit naughty.

Yes, the tarrif options menu is hard to follow in French, but just keep trying and you'll get it done eventually. Or an Orange shop should do it for you.

As regards speed, I haven't used it for three months, but I think it was generally pretty quick. If you need to remotely access a PC in the UK, barryd, then will you have the option to move your MH a few miles until you get a better signal?

I have been following all this infomation above unless i have missed something is this dongle info for the internet on a laptop....or a mobile phone

This is the one thing on our list that has to wait until I actually iget to France before I suss it out and this worries me. I think we are heading to Cherbourg from Portsmouth. Presumably I will get it sorted there. My plan was to just go laptop in hand to an Orange shop or France Telecom and say there you go can you make it work please? Anybody know of such a place in Cherbourg?

Cheers

Hi,

I have an Orange UK contract dongle. Will I be able to buy a P.A.Y.G. sim in France/andor Spain to fit into it?

Or......... will I have to have my UK dongle unlocked?

Or.......... will I have to buy another dongle?

I'm only a woman, help me out here guys please, and I'm pretty useless with technology too!

Thanks

Rosemary

We managed to get this working last week - though we've had a couple of issues.

We went into an orange shop yesterday and got through to their customer services line. Internet Max has now been discontinued - so this little loophole has been closed. Ours will continue until the end of the month subscription then it's over.

regards

I never managed to get this sorted on our trip and now its ended. There must be a solution out there. It really spoilt our tour not having the internet when we wanted it. I just cant beleive that its so difficult over there compared to here! Even if vodafone UK said its £15 per month in the UK and £30 overseas for 3GB a month. I would pay that and more probably. Madness!

I totally agree. I am off to France next Saturday, and wanted to sort something out before I go.
However, it looks like roaming the streets to find an open internet connection (or a MacDonalds) is the only cheap option.
I am surprised that one of the companies like Sim4Travel have not come up with a solution, like they have for the mobile phones.
