Hi Guys

We have used United Mobile for our trips abroad but since their demise we have not found a suitable replacement company. Have done a search on here but a lot of the info is months out of date.

What is the latest info on the companies who will do what United Mobile and Riingmobile did, ie offer continental sim roaming without huge charges.

Alternatively, doies anyone use one of those wierd numbers which allow you to use your UK mobile minutes whilst touring Spain or France?

Thanks for looking. We are away in 17 days - off to Spain Cool

I'm using Easyroam, they do a United Mobile exchange

I used it when I was at Le Mans this year, my wife was able to call me from home using 18185 for 6p a minute. (no charge for receiving the call)

So this works best for receiving calls, I think its 29p per minutes to call back to the UK

No problem with the service

Andrew

I had a united mobile card... it's was good, although I didn't always get texts'.

I've a monthly contract with orange, and I have just signed up for the European Traveller. I've just got the 30 day version it's £5.
You get 200 minutes at discounted rates for calling home i.e 27p per minute.

BUT

You also get 200 minutes of receiving calls for FREE Shocked Shocked

I was advised to turn Voicemail OFF as retrieving this counts as making a call... at 27p per minute.

I won't use a global sim, as it's nice to keep the same number as I use in the UK.

Here's the link

w

PS forgot to say, that as you keep your number if a UK person want to call you and they have inclusive minutes on their contract... then it's free for them to call you.

I was extremely lucky this year as Vodafone decided to abolish its charges in europe for roaming, and therefore I was able to use my phone as I do at home. The result was a normal £25.00 bill after my holiday, not the £125.00 bill that I had last year.

Incidentley Texting was also free, and as I have unlimited text messages, this was ideal for the younger members of the family.

Yes, we bought a vodaphone sim just for that purpose but the free roaming stopoped a few days ago hence our looking for something else, preferably using our Virgin free minutes or a global sim or .... whatever.

HHMMMmmm, looking on google it seems that using your free minutes is easier from UK to ring abroad. Can't find anywhere that will allow you to use your UK mobile whilst in Spain to call the UK unless you pay big roaming charges.

Looks like we might have to use something like easyroam, which...... isn't a bad thing by the way. Laughing
