I have a Sky dish with 4 channel LNB which I have used on a tripod to receive sat in the van. I have it coupled in the van to a non Sky plus box - obviously with just the one lead attached to the LNB. All works fine.
I am now going to get a crank up from Snelly for the van and am thinking of putting the Sky plus dish on the bungalow. I don't intend subscribing.
I hope to purchase a s/hand Sky Plus box and connect all up. OK?
Questions are - will the box work on Sky plus without subscribing (obviously only on FTA channels?
Will I be able to record a second channel without subscribing and will I be able to receive / watch HD channels ie those from the BBC etc on this set up?
Blast a technical question I thought I was gonna be able to answer and be first to boot.......................but sadly no
Sorry Dave hunny I can program it and do all sorts of other clever stuff with it and I know that you need two leads in the back of it to the two LNB whoosits to be able to watch and record at one and the same time. Sadly I have no idea about your question..............sorry sweetie!
Dave sweetie found THIS for you looks like the answer is no

Yes it will work.
We upgraded to sky HD last week, carried the old sky+ next door to my parents (they live in a granny annex) and connected it to the two spare outputs on our sky dish. They popped it their sky freeview card and it works fine recording one channel watching another or recording two. The only function that does not work is the anytime tv which I have never used anyway.

If you are a Sky customer on at least the minimum subscription of £16.50 then the Sky Plus PVR features are now free.
If not then you have to pay a seperate subscription of £9.75 just to use the Sky Plus box as a PVR.
Beware of buying a 2nd hand box on ebay as Sky is currently recalling thousands of Pace boxes. Also there have been loads of problems with Amstrad and Thomson Sky Plus boxes.
We had a Sky Plus HD install last Thursday and we were given a Samsung box which is apparently the favourite one at the moment.
Box and install by the heights team including a new dish on the chimney as the old one was rusty cost £79.

We bought our Sky+ digibox from Ebay 12 months ago and it came complete with a non subscriber card and it works perfectly. I don't think they charge now for Sky+ but they do charge for Sky+ HD. The chap that we bought our from ws upgrading the HD.
