Not the busiest section of the forum in here, is it? Maybe that's because very few have an Iveco based motorhome, or maybe there are lots of you that have nothing "Iveco" to talk about. Are they so good that there is nothing to whinge about? My limited experience of other forums is that people more often post about this problem or that problem - less frequently do people post to say, "My x is lovely and I wouldn't change a single thing about it."
So, to the point. Does the Iveco 50 C17 HPT make a good basis for a motorhome? Any significant issues?
Hi John, mine is an Iveco and no silly reversing probs or anything to worry about On my second without problem, the only downside is (panel van )it is narrow.Give it oil & water when service is due and I am sure it will give many miles of trouble free motoring

I we have an Iveco based chassis with a Laika conversion.
our chassis is a 35c13 or something like that, so couldnt comment on yours. However, today we had our MOT done and passed with flying colours. We love it, it is so easy to manoeuvre as it is rear wheel drive, and has a lovely tight lock. We never get stuck anywhere.
The gear box can seem a little tight at the beginning but that is something we have got used too.
It is our first motorhome so we have nothings to compare it to. But like someone has said it doesnt have scuttle or reversing problems. It does depend on the conversion used too.
Thanks all, that's quite encouraging. The Iveco certainly seems to be popular with breakdown trucks and the like, so I guess the load carrying pedigree is good.
And, of course, it isn't a Fiat!
Just got to be as sure as we need to be about the layout before taking the plunge.

Iveco is owned by Fiat Group, but of course it is an entirely different animal to the Sevel manufactured vans and people carriers that are badged Fiat, Peugeot or Citroen.
Iveco has factories in 16 countries and focuses on light, medium and heavy commercial and public service vehicles. It is very well-represented in the truck sector.
Sevel - Société Européenne de Véhicules Légers SpA (European Society of Lightweight Vehicles) comprises two factories. One in Valenciennes, France that is controlled by PSA (Peugeot-Citroen) and manufactures MPVs. The other factory is in Atessa, Italy and is controlled by Fiat. This is where the commercial vehicles are made.
We have just purchased a Cathago based on an Iveco is on the 50C18A chassis, 1400kg payload, 3ltr engine, Agile auto gearbox, rear wheel drive.
We have done just short of 3,000 miles so far and all is very well, had a sprinter previously and tried to do the homework well - so far pleased with the quality of the base vechcle
This chassis was the best available in terms of payload
Iveco is Italian based on Ford, or should I say a Ford with Italian engine. We had one with our Mustang, 6 speed gearbox.top gear ratio very low does not give good mpg.engine noisy and we found prone to engine management gremlins,.found brakes not as efficient as they should have been.reminded me of driving an old land rover.no where near as quiet as the new Fiat.
However the rwd with twin wheels on one axle made for a smooth ride.
As to the Fiat judder you could buy an automatic which do not suffer this, or wait for one that has the redesigned gearbox with better ratios.
Our N & B Flair is on an Iveco with a 3ltr engine built in Italy. Seems a good bet so far toured lots this year in it. Handles really well loaded with all our gear including the M/bike in the rear garage.
Thanks to all for the replies - I've certainly learned more about the ownership of Iveco.
Wiggy, Good to hear you are pleased with your C50 18A based m/home - the C50 17 is the previous model chassis - similar size engine and GVW limit to yours. The one we are currently looking at is a manual - I've seen another that is an auto but the layout is wrong for us.
If I'm learning one thing above all else, it that compromises will have to be made if we are going to take the plunge into motorhome ownership. How near to perfect does it have to be, we keep asking each other.
