I really can't understand why anyone would want HD in a motorhome. You will not see any advantage with HD unless you have at least a 32inch TV screen. Fine if you have a 40 foot RV but 32in tele in a euro motorhome

OK, a Sky HD box will work as will an SD box without a phone line being connected.
Part of the initial contract you have with Sky specifies the 12 month requirement. I've had Sky since 1989 and only at the very beginning have I been connected to a phone line.
In that time I've upgraded to digital, Sky+ and since 2007 Sky HD.
The only time Sky are hot on phone lines is with Multiroom, as all boxes must be connected to the same number to prevent fraud. They do callbacks to the boxes regularly and will disable them if not connected to the correct line.
HD picture quality is related directly to screen size versus viewing distance. We have a 19" HD ready LCD in the MH and we view from about 2' 6". The picture is stunning. If we were 6' away the difference would be less marked. You do not need a large screen if you are viewing from a short distance!! Loads of people watch HD on PC monitors and they're generally small!!
You can do most of the Sky+ actions with a single LNB apart from watching one channel and recording another simultaneously.
No, You cannot receive Sky Hd unless the HD box is connected permanently to a telephone line, There are other boxes that enable HD to be received without a phone line but not Sky HD.
I have had Sky HD for quite some time now and haven't got it connected to a phone line. HD works fine.

Now that may have been my problem as I am on Sky multiroom.

Having just upgraded to Sky+ HD, I researched this point beforehand. As has been said, after a year, there is no requirement for a phone connection for non-HD Sky+ installations, but there is a requirement for one for HD installations, which does not time-expire. If you use your HD box without a phone connection, you will be able to use it but only until it comes to light that you have no phone connection, when Sky will intervene.
So the issue isn't about the box being in the motorhome; it's about not being connected to your specified phone line.
Dougie.
Just to put you right, there is no permanent phone line requirement for Sky HD. Like all of Sky's contracts there is an initial 12 month contract. If you upgrade to Sky HD there is not a new contract.
Sky will really only intervene if it is a Multiroom contract, as they can lose millions if the Multiroom boxes are moved to other properties.
Many people these days are getting rid of land lines in their homes and still have Sky/Sky HD.
Officially, you can pay Sky £25 when you first sign up to get out of the 'interactive contract' and no phone line is required.
Where did you do your research to find such misinformation?

I really don't want HD in Motorhome. I just want box to work in home and Motorhome, so we can switch about.
Thank to everyone for Info.
As of now we won't have landline when we move so will contact Sky and see what their answer is.

Thats funny as we have also had multiroom over the same 15 month period and neither box is connected to the phone.
How do Sky "Dial In" anyway? It would surely ring our phone line and the box would have to know to answer it.
I just wonder if this whole thing is actually a myth.
We have a Sky person in the family.
When suitably lubricated, he/she let it be known that there are two reasons why Sky try to impose a contractual requirement for connection to a telephone line.
1. Your box collects and transmits, via the phone line, data on you and your viewing habits/patterns. Such data can be used by Sky for whatever purpose they choose.
2. Many channels carried by Sky are shopping channels, enabling you to shop from the comfort of your armchair using your zapper. Your interaction needs a phone line. No doubt Sky collect rent for these channels on the assurance that viewers are all connected by phone.
I suspect that phone-connection is checked on a random scanning basis, which explains why some "get away with it" and some get "caught".
