Batteries (all the ones I have come across) have a date stamp pressed into the plastic it may be in 'code' but easy enough to crack for example 8/08 H/08 808 12345678910111 070809.

If its an old one ask yourself why and is it likely they looked after it.

Quick question.

Is it better use of the battery to use a 12v appliance such as a TV, through a 12v socket or plugged into an inverter to create 240v? Does one draw more than the other or does it make no difference?

I'm sorry but this bit

> "Rule 1 When using a battery aim not to discharge to less than 50% of its capacity. 10% is the absolute maximum" <

Went right over my head.

EDIT :-Sorry must have gone brain dead or blonde for a moment there, I got it when I re-read it.

Kev

If you have for example a 110 Ampere hour battery you should try not to take more than 55 Ampere Hours (50% of its capacity) from it and never take more than 99 Ampere hours (90% out 10% left).

I don't really like using this chart because its got so many caveats but it shows what the voltage might be for various stares of charge

So never go below 11.4V and try not to go below 12V

The inverter route will give 12V accurately. This can be important especially if your TV set was not intended for car caravan use. The voltage on a "12V" socket can be up to 14V and this may damage the set.
If it was and came with a suitable lead it was presumably designed to connect to a direct connection will use less current and so discharge your battery less quickly.

Thank you for the comment about 50% discharge. I will have another try.
