Hi Barry, Snelly is obviously the expert here I can only say what I actually get or have got, and each set can be different, Once I get to Mid Italy I lose some channels, I am not sure which or exactly where I lose them, We do have to search for different area channels, This is done by finding out the frequencies and then using the add new channels button, Because some Channels are not accessible where you live, Your Box is set up to your area ie live north you are likely to get Yorkshire and so on, So I then search for Other channels ie Anglia and so on the further south I get.

If you look on the lyngsat link I posted, it shows what channels are transmitted on what beam. As you can see, BBC is on 2D, so almost impossible to get in Portugal without a large dish. Look at channels on the south beam, you get some of the sky subscription channels, but not all, some are on north beam.
Top and bottom of it is, your not going to get everything you get in the UK, your too far outside two of the beams footprints. South beam is the only one you'll have any constant sucess with.
Barry, you will need a Sky card to watch encrypted Sky progs, unless of course you are a computer geek and even then it's questionable if you could beat their encryption. however if you have a Sky box or buy one Sky have told me today i would get 200 channels without a Sky contract. these would be free to air channels but not channel four and i think five. to improve on this without a Sky contract a friend in the UK could buy for a on of £20 a Sky freesat card which will give you a selection of Sky channels but not Gold, although i think you will get 4 and 5. I have just scrapped Sky and bought a BBC/ITV Humax Freesat box with HD and recording facility. Plugs in to my existing Sky LNB cables and bingo 200 channels and 30-40 radio stations. No card no contract. I will unplug and plug in to my Oyster system on my Niesamnn Arto when i travel.
Hope this helps.
