Hi all.

I'm looking to fit a basic satellite system. I don't want anything fancy or anything that I have to pay a monthly subscription for.

I just want to be able to get some basic stations such as BBC news, etc.

Is this possible and if so how much do you think it would cost?

Look forward to hearing from you!

Dave and Carol.

Dave & Carol,

http://www.freesatfromsky.com/?pID=6

For £150 you go from nothing to dish, LNB, digital receiver, and free-to-view channels encryption card. No monthly subscription or contract.

Unbolt the dish and LNB, buy a length of cable, a tripod (and I would recommend a satellite meter) and away you go.

However, if all you want is terrestrial channels in the UK, a directional terrestrial aerial would be simpler.

Thanks Dave,

Had a look at Sky's Free sat, looks good, just what I was looking for.

Do you know if I will be able to receive all across Europe?

Regards, Dave & Carol.

Just ordered our Burstner 748 for delivery in March 2006, can't wait to jack in work and go and explore! Very Happy

Dave & Carol,

Yes, subject to these transponder footprints and the channels broadcast on them:

Southern Spain is a bummer.

Interesting charts those, Dave. Now I really can't believe I fell for the spiel of getting a bigger dish for Spain. My 80cm is rather bigger than I need, it would seem!

The dish, that is.

Stormy,

It depends entirely on what channels you need where. An 80cm dish would cover an awful lot more of France for the main UK terrestrial channels.
