We are currently near Foix in France just north of the Pyrenees and despite the satellite locking on to Astra 2 north, Astra 2 south & Hotbird we still keep getting the message no signal please check the cable, LNB & the direction of the dish.

We have an Alden automatic dish with Zehnder box and an Avtex W153D TV. The last site where we received satellite we were only able to receive the French Station AB3 can anyone suggest what the problem is please.

Barrie

It seems to be telling you what the problem is. Look at the dish. If it appears to be pointing in the same direction as others around you then it most probably is a bad connection. Check first the scart on the back of the TV then as it connects to the receiver. Then check the co-ax connector the F connector connected to lnb in on the receiver. It would be good at this point if you had a sat finder because if this was connected inline you could see if you had signal from the dish. Other than that it would have to be a faulty LNB or receiver which is very unlikely. If you don't fix it and continue down into Spain on the east side (costas) pm me and I will sort it for you (free of course)

I understand Sky was down for sometime. Not sure if that affects any other stations other than sky of course. Personally, I wish Sky would stay down permanently. I don't like 'em I don't.

That's not nice !! I made my living for the past 20 years off Sky and Uncle Rupert... Very Happy
He even helped me to retire early so I can go off in my Motorhome all the time... Surprised

Thanks for the replies we finally managed to get Astra 2 north by changing some of the settings on the menu although still don't know why we had to do this as before the picture has come up automatically once the satellite has locked on.

Thanks again for your help.

Barrie

Had you previously set it to the southern beam? if so then it would possibly not get a signal up north. Likewise if a sky receiver is set to receive in the UK it won't get a signal down towards southern spain until the frequency is changed to the southern beam 12.129 from 11.778
see http://www.satelliteforcaravans.co.uk/ I have a sky box connected as I have a twin LNB Kathrein system and have noticed that it can revert back to 11.778 by itself and shows no signal when it does it. I tend never to use the sky box but keep it in case I want to watch some sport shown only on sky and I am away from home for over a week.

Sky box works perfectly on southern beam all through southern Spain and Portugal. The governing factor to get BBC and ITV programs is the size of dish, but a lot of the other programs can be seen on 55cm roof dish.

It all sounded so simple but I just cannot find a satellite signal at all. Do I have to set something special in the Antenna Installation menu? I have an FS-4200 receiver with a 54cm dish. Help! it's driving me mad and she really needs to see the soaps next week in France.
