Hi Dave, I noticed in the newsletter you're stopping at the Chateau de Gandspette, you must visit the 'Blockhaus' just down the road, no doubt you will see the signs for it outside the site entrance.

It's down the road in Eperleques where the Germans were carrying out their V2 programme in WW2 using it as a launching station. Shocked

Well worth a look!

Thanks to the newsletter I have been able to log onto the MHF website today on my laptop. I used one of the links. But I couldn't do so via the usual way despite doing the DNS flush as written. Yet judy logged on via the PC ok! Very strange. Our ISP is Tiscali, are they the problem?

I echo M&D's recommendation of the Blockhaus at Eperleques. Read all about it here:

Nearby, at Mimoyecques, is the site of the V3 'London Gun' (the little-known Nazi terror weapon that Saddam Hussain based his long-range gun on - the one that parts were intercepted in this country, the 'aluminium tubes', remember?) Not a lot to see at this site (a huge cave), but of huge historical significance, so well worth a visit. There's a bit about it here:

As an aside, President Kennedy's older brother (a WWII airman) was killed on the bombing raid that put this place out of action.

There are several great places near Calais for the WWI & II historian (and family!) to visit, perhaps at the end of the holiday when you get to Calais a bit earlier than expected! These are but two - this site may give you some more ideas:

Sorry - that last post of mine is a bit "Off Topic" so I've placed it in 'Overseas Touring Info'.
