I use my amplifier in conjunction with the RF output of the sat box and when viewing the sat channel on the 2nd TV it becomes distorted but the freeview is fine!

Richard,
The RF output from your sat box is as good as you can get. The amplifier is increasing the gain to a point where the tuner is struggling. fine for digital but too much for analogue. Try an attenuator on the lead from the sat box, to bring the signal back down. Cheap enough in maplins, aim for an attenuator about the same strength as the amplifier.
Have the same at home, I have whacked up the gain so as to get a decent digital signal, but cannot watch analogue.
