Microsoft Office Professional has a package called Visio Technical. Its a 2D package so its not long winded.
I use it all the time, it will do everything you require.

Ask around.

As an architect we use CAD extensively including 3D models of most of our projects. However, for the kind of thing you want to do the most efficient way to do what you want (and what I would do) is with the old reliable pencil or felt tip pen and tracing paper. Just sketch out what you want even if it's very crude the builder should be able to understand what you are thinking about.

Hey everyone, I'm sorry for not replying but I didn't get any further email alerts to say there was any more responses....so glad I double checked.

I am trying to do some sort of rough sketches by hand as well but I also have to take some reasonably accurate drawings to the Council to get some pre-approval prior to deciding if we want to go ahead and buy the property. Very Happy

Now....if possible I would like to add the details of the proposed extension which sits at right angles to main (original) building, so it will end up like an upside down L shape building.

Within the new wing will be 4 rooms - plus possibly a hallway. I need to be able to play around with drawings to see what works best but I can do that on graph paper if necessary and then transfer details onto plan online.

Because my PC is rather old and I don't get the new one till next week I am loath to keep downloading software as it b*ggars it up somewhat.

I am going to copy and paste your suggestions and print them off and try some of them later. Will let you know how it goes.

Cheers for all your help Smile

Maura

Seems you need to have Windows Vista for this software - I'm still on Windows 2000 for the time being.

If you would like to have some real drawings done, we could do them for you for a reasonably low fee. PM me. We are on our way to Croatia so not sure about internet connections but we will be back in a week.
