BACKGROUND - As a novice photographer I have yet to read the multi-page Instructions or to get a real grip on my camera’s full potential.
I presently just use it to ‘point and shoot’ yet, despite my laziness/ineptitude, this CANON Digital IXUS 970 IS has produced some pretty good shots which transfer to PC & print well.

I have now amassed over 6,500 image files, within 73 sub-folders, which occupy 14.2 GB of Hard Disc space. (Disc storage space is NOT a problem, I have acres available!) Most of those images were taken using the above camera and, when transferred to my PC via an SD Card, the ‘Image Properties’ shown are these:

JPEG - Varying in size from just over 1MB to over 5MB for each image.
(Most of these images seem to be in the range of between 2.5MB to 3.5MB so, by my rough calculation; the ‘Average Image Size’ would appear to be around 2.3MB)
Dimensions 3648 x 2736 Dpi 180

MY PROBLEM - These images are clearly too large for some e-mail and web-site attachments/uploads.
i.e. Our MHF Website PM JPEG Attachment facility will, apparently, only accept up to a maximum of: “Images -> Maximum Upload Size: 512 KB”

MY QUESTION:
Please can you describe how can I (simply?) reduce such images to a lower byte-size which would be more acceptable to e-mail and web-site attachments/uploads/avatars?

Over to you helpful photo experts - but please reply slowly and carefully, I know all about Rocket Science (POLARIS S/Ms) and Camaraderie, but absolutely Zilch about Cameras !!

Hi,

I am sure everyone has there own favoured program (there are plenty out there).

I find Mihov to be the easiest / quickest and most up to the job one out there (plus it's free).

GOOD LUCK

Google Photorazor. Free download.

Does exactly what you are looking for. Reduces to whatever size you want, producing smaller images in a separate folder, without destroying the originals.

I use it to reduce my 3mb originals to suit Outlook Express email viewing.
