I'm after a new 3 in 1 wireless printer (print/copy/scan) for max budget of around £80. It's just for home use.
I have just bought a new laptop - an Acer Aspire which I'm trying to find my way around! It's my first new PC in 10 years so things have moved on a tad
I have a Lexmark printer but it's very basic and I want one that can scan and copy. Have been reading of problems with HP printers and Vista so thought I would try and see if anyone on here any opinions or advice on good printer I could buy.
So far have looked at Which Best buys and also looked at Argos end of catalogue sale stuff. Plenty around to choose from but now I'm confused
The Daughter (works in IT) tells me HP Officejet are good range but to avoid some of the new HP 6000 series as they have lots of probs. Also told me to avoid Epson - its a personal thing I think. I did have a Canon Photosmart about 3 years ago and when it developed a fault it was impossible to repair, it was also noisy and heavy on ink so that put me off Canon. However, I realise things move on so I'm open to suggestions......anyone care to share some thoughts on the very boring subject of printers

I would steer clear of Lexmark because the ink cartridges are so small. HP would be a good place to look. Lots of bargains about, don,t spend any more than £30 on a combined printer, cscanner.
If you do lots then Lazer technology is now price attractive.

Correction:- that should be "some cartridges can cost more than the printer."
I've bought printers recently for less than the cost of a replacement black cartridge.
If you don't need colour buy a laser printer - if you don't need colour much, buy a laser printer and a cheap colour inkjet for just the colour stuff - don't ever use an inkjet for black & white printing.
Personally I wouldn't bother with wifi as it seems to add a lot to the cost of the printer and don't find plugging a USB lead in to be much of a problem.
Well it is mostly black & white printing we do and not all that much really, just the usual letters etc.
I was thinking of maybe using it for photos but then again you can get them done quite cheaply now in Boots it doesn't really seem worth the bother of trying to get good prints at home.
I was going for a wi-fi one as the tangle of cables around my PC is driving me nuts and the laptop is wi-fi. However, I havent got my head around linking them all up to talk to each other yet.
So if I am looking at HP....any of the series in particular?

Check out the "printer" category as well as the "multifunctionals" one.
Delivery is very cheap, every item has been checked out and comes with the test sheets - most are just unused returned stock - they often have Argos catalogue numbers on.
They also come with full retail sized cartridges, not the mini "starter" ones some makers supply with new machines.
I would always suggest that you buy a PC magazine and look for the best buys. Speed and ink usage are always taken into consideration.

I try and state simple facts in a nice way.
I'm an HP man - always have been, always will be. When I was working in schools, we had all sorts, but had so many problems with Epsons blocking up, I gradually changed them all to HP of one sort or another. I suspect many of the problems may have been due to buying 'cheap' inks (but I don't know for sure).
Anyhoo, we bought a new printer just before Christmas - an HP C4580. It does the scanning / copying / printing thing. Quality on photo paper is great, and we have some lovely photos of family around our house now.
Of course, we can select the quality when we print, so normal B/W stuff is printed in fast economical, saving precious ink.
It's also wireless, which has meant we have been able to print from any of our computers anywhere in the house. It also means we can set it up anywhere (basically, plug it into the mains, and away you go). Comet (where we got ours) are currently doing them for £70.

Tried tha Canons and The Epsons, biggest problem with them is that for low usage the ink tends to dry out and clog the print head. New head is more than a printer.
Absolutely right about avoiding Lexmark, and therefore avoid anything Dell branded.
Keep going back to HP and currently have HP OfficeJet 7280. Stonking printer, excellent photos, six cartridge so economical, wireless, printer, scanner, fax, coiper. With sheet feeder, so can scan multiple photos to computer and can scan slides and negatives. But not too cheap, paid about £129 few months ago.
BTW, had the Kodak, which they say the cartridges are about half the cost of others. Don't you believe it, as soon as the machine tells you the ink has run out, it refuses to print another page.
